Mechanical Equipment Engineer

Orbital is seeking a Mechanical Equipment Engineer to provide technical support for mechanical projects across our Heavy Industrial Division. The position requires demonstrated engineering and design competency, preferably in a consulting environment, and with heavy industrial engineering projects. This is a fully remote position within the United States.

The ideal candidate will be a high performing, critically thinking, analytical, and experienced self-starter with excellent leadership skills, written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Review client requests for proposals and scopes of work. Act as Orbital representative at bid walkdowns.  Prepare manhour estimates and proposals.
  • Perform engineering studies and calculations in accordance with ASME, API and other applicable industry standards
  • Prepare mechanical equipment specifications and selection for vessels, tanks, pumps and heat exchangers. Provide procurement support services through evaluation of bid submittals, development of technical bid tabulations and vendor deliverable review.
  • Prepare construction specifications and scopes of work. Provide construction support through RFI dispositions and occasional onsite installation surveillance.
  • Support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource
  • Develop, maintain and upgrade technical standards/specifications to be used on specific projects
  • Complete all tasks in accordance with design and project execution procedures and guidelines as set forth in corporate Quality Management System

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Ten years of prior professional experience
  • Thorough understanding of equipment in Petrochemical facilities, Terminals and Refineries
  • Working knowledge of ASME, API, PIP and other industry standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer License
  • Proficiency utilizing Caesar II to perform pipe stress analysis
