About the Team

The Networks team is responsible for defining, building and supporting authorization and authentication systems, high-frequency sensor ingest, client attesting technologies and network optimization. Their systems are used by all teams at Life360 and have tremendous impact on the overall operations of the product. Some of their maintained and owned services are the highest throughput in the company offering unique scaling challenges and opportunities.

About the Job

You’ll be working with a dynamic backend team, Java, Go, Python engineers, focusing on building and scaling cloud-native solutions. We are migrating away from legacy systems and embracing a microservices architecture leveraging AWS services like EKS, ECS and Lambdas, as well as building the next generation of high-frequency sensor data ingest by utilizing Java, Kafka and Kafka Connect. This team works closely with Staff engineers and other teams at Life360 to ensure solutions perform at scale.

The Canada-based salary range for this position is $125,500-$140,000 CAD. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining final salary- therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits, as well as equity.

What You’ll Do
  • Building the next generation of high-frequency sensor data ingest utilizing Java and Kafka
  • Work with other engineers to develop and deploy new Java, Go and Python microservices.
  • Design and implement serverless solutions using AWS Lambdas.
  • Utilize and integrate various AWS services for scalable and resilient architecture.
  • Work cross-functionally across teams to gain alignment on your or team's initiatives.
  • Monitor health, suggest/drive improvements for, and deploy your own services.
  • Maintain and improve service level objectives (SLOs).
  • Collaborate closely with Senior engineers to build technical specs.
  • Help our Test Engineering team to further automate services and component validation.
  • Create and update automation suites to enable improved automation.
What We’re Looking For
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience. Minimum 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Polyglot Engineering Expertise: Proven proficiency across multiple programming languages, including Java (Spring Boot), Python, and Go, with the ability to select the right tool for the problem at hand.
  • Architecture & System Design: Demonstrated ability to design and deliver scalable, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems while balancing performance, maintainability, and cost efficiency.
  • Systems & Databases: Extensive experience with both relational and non-relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Cloud & Infrastructure Mastery:
    • Deep expertise with AWS services (e.g., Lambda, SQS, SNS, ECS, EKS, S3).
    • Strong understanding of microservices architecture and serverless computing.
    • Hands-on experience deploying, scaling, and maintaining systems with Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Quality & Reliability: Strong commitment to engineering excellence, with experience in automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, and observability practices.
  • Adaptability & Leadership: Proven ability to adapt quickly to evolving technologies and business requirements. Experience mentoring peers, contributing to technical direction, and leading by example in collaborative environments.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional and globally distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Advanced experience with enterprise-scale event-driven and streaming systems (e.g., Kafka, NSQ).
  • Deep knowledge of security best practices, including JWTs, encryption methods, and key management.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory standards relevant to enterprise systems (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Proven ability to optimize performance and reliability of large-scale cloud systems.
Track record of thriving in remote or globally distributed environments, demonstrating autonomy, adaptability, and sound judgment.
