Position Title: TA Consultant, Leadership & Capacity Sharing

Location: Remote (Michigan-based) with occasional in-state and out-of-state travel as required

Schedule: Monday - Friday

Salary Range: $60,670 - $67,411

Class: Exempt 


Position Summary:

The goal of ECIC’s Leadership and Capacity Sharing Team is to support communities, regions, and states in building the capacity, relationships, and infrastructure needed to address complex systems challenges impacting young children and their families. 


The Technical Assistance (TA) Consultant facilitates learning and design spaces, and offers consultation and training for leaders at the national, state, regional, and local levels working to strengthen early childhood systems in Michigan and around the country. 


All work is grounded in a commitment to embedding family and parent leadership in systems design and improvement efforts to be more equitable and inclusive. TA delivered across the country focuses on authentic family leadership in early childhood systems. The TA delivered in Michigan focuses on strengthening local, regional, and statewide cross-sector early childhood systems that center the voices of families, service providers, and communities. 


The TA Consultant is responsible for building and maintaining strong partner relationships, providing adaptive coaching and consultation to support long-term implementation, and collaborating with organizations engaged in policy and systems work focused on young children and families.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide adaptive facilitation, coaching, consultation, and training to leaders and teams focused on early childhood systems improvement efforts that center individuals with lived experience. 
  • Develop and support work plans, system design processes, alignment tools, learning experiences, and implementation supports to help partners achieve early childhood systems goals.
  • Engage partners through consultation sessions, events, meetings, and virtual communities of practice to promote shared learning, coordinated action, and cross-system relationships.
  • Monitor emerging trends, best practices, and research related to equitable early childhood systems and family leadership, and integrate findings into technical assistance approaches. 
  • Collaborate across ECIC teams to ensure alignment with public policy, systems priorities and technical assistance strategies.
  • Represent ECIC at local, regional, statewide, and national events, including conferences and convenings, to share expertise, increase visibility, and strengthen partnerships. 
  • Manage partner relationships and prospects by preparing reports, supporting outreach efforts, contributing to the development of proposals, grant applications, and other materials that advance strategic goals.

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education and Experience

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience. 
  • Required: Five to seven (5-7) years of work experience, including at least two years in training, facilitation, public policy, or consulting role in Early Childhood.
  • Proven success in the development and implementation of training and technical assistance programming on a statewide or national scale. 

Technical and Professional Skills

  • Strong understanding of public systems impacting families with young children, including early care and education, public health, and family supports.
  • Specialties in two or more training content areas that are marketable to current and potential ECIC clients, and state and national leaders in the early childhood field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while managing multiple tasks, projects, and timelines.
  • Ability to use data and analytical skills to proactively identify opportunities, set priorities, and solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal with the ability to partner effectively across diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural communities. 

Technology Skills

  • Proficient with distance learning tools (e.g. conference calls, online meetings, and webinars). 
  • Proficient in communication and data collection tools such as Constant Contact and Survey Monkey.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and web-based applications.

Other Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and vehicle or other ability of travel throughout Michigan, including periodic overnight travel.

Physical Requirements:

Talking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to others accurately. (4-5 hours daily)

Hearing - Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. (4-5 hours daily)

Walking - Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. (1-2 hours daily)

Standing – In one position, particularly for sustained periods of time. (1-2 hours daily)

Visual Acuity – Viewing objects with close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading. (5-6 hours daily)

Office Setting - Sedentary work in which exerting up to 10 pounds of force is occasional and a negligible amount of force is frequently or constantly used to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
