Job description

Overview: 

Join a growing Personal Lines team focused on catastrophe-exposed property risk. SageSure is seeking a Senior Underwriter to serve as a Product Technical Specialist, helping us drive underwriting excellence across both admitted and surplus lines. This role blends deep underwriting expertise with product and regulatory knowledge to support ongoing innovation in homeowners and property & casualty insurance. 

What you’d be doing: 

  • Provide technical underwriting guidance and ensure adherence to carrier guidelines, rules, and policies. 
  • Support underwriting operations by reviewing referrals, analyzing inspection and claim files, and resolving exceptions. 
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Product, Actuarial, Risk, Tech, and Compliance) to shape product strategy and system enhancements. 
  • Contribute to regulatory filings, respond to DOI inquiries, and support compliance with state-specific requirements. 
  • Communicate directly with agents, brokers, and occasionally policyholders to explain coverage decisions and underwriting practices. 
  • Train, coach, and collaborate with underwriters to ensure consistent, high-quality risk selection. 
  • Identify trends and recommend improvements in underwriting workflows and tools. 

We’re looking for someone who has: 

  • 7–10+ years of personal lines underwriting experience (homeowners and property preferred). 
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply guidelines, analyze data, and make sound underwriting decisions. 
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with both internal teams and external partners. 
  • Experience in both admitted and surplus lines insurance environments. 
  • Confidence working independently in a fast-paced, tech-enabled setting. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook); familiarity with Tableau, PowerBI, or Visio is a plus. 

Highly preferred candidates also have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or industry certifications (CPCU or other designations). 
  • Experience working directly with agents and policyholders. 
  • Exposure to product development, insurance systems, and regulatory filings.
