Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for a Design Engineer/Designer - Mechanical to join our Engineering Department! As part of the Engineering team, you will be responsible for preparing conceptual and final mechanical engineering designs of building services for transit and related facilities and structures. What You Will Do
Provide engineering expertise in building services design, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, high pressure piping, fluid storage and distribution systems, bus hoists and other vehicle servicing equipment, subway ventilation system, for all types of transit and related facilities and structures.
This involves the following:
- Establishing mechanical engineering design concepts and performing analysis and design calculations.
- Preparing drawings, specifications and contract documents based on established user group and project requirements.
- Taking on design lead role for projects where mechanical services are major scope of work.
- Stamping/Sealing and signing drawings for building permit applications, tender bid and construction in accordance and as required by the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Managing and coordinating multiple projects and contracts while taking responsibility for the deliverables.
- Providing guidance and reviewing the work of Design Draftspersons and Engineering Technologists for conformance with design inputs.
- Researching and incorporating relevant codes and standards associated with the work.
- Taking professional responsibility for the designs in accordance and as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
- Assisting with preparation of contract drawings using Bentley MicroStation CADD software.
- Providing finalized mechanical specifications to technical support section for compiling issued for tender/construction packages.
- Preparing work plans, preliminary design reports and other technical reports as required.
- Conducting site inspections and reviewing record drawings for purposes of investigating existing conditions.
- Periodically assisting in development and update to the TTC Design Standards.
- Driving engineering excellence by enabling and guiding operational maintenance teams to ensure optimal performance.
Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

What Qualifications Do You Bring
- Your registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) as a licensed Engineer (P.Eng.), or your progress with the ability to obtain a P.Eng. license within 4 years as required. Your job title and pay will be commensurate with your experience.
- Completion of a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, combined with several years of related experience in a multi-disciplinary design environment where mechanical drawings and specifications are produced and result in built facilities and structures.
- Possession of a valid Class “G” Driver’s license for the Province of Ontario and access to a vehicle.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, methods and practices for the design and construction of surface and subway transit related buildings, facilities and equipment.
- Sound knowledge of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, plumbing, drainage, high pressure piping, fire protection, and fleet servicing equipment, including and not limited to fluid distribution and storage tanks, hoisting/conveying equipment, and subway
- ventilation systems related to the underground tunnels and stations.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of the applicable provincial and national codes, regulations and standards that govern mechanical design for buildings, including but not limited to: Ontario’s Building Code (OBC), National Building Code (NBC), Occupational
- Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Fire Code (OFC), American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers Inc. (ASHRAE), American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) / American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Electrical Safety Code ESA and TTC Design Standards.
- Strong working knowledge of: Bentley MicroStation or Autodesk AutoCAD, building heating and cooling analysis software, MS Office and other relevant software applications related to the work.
