Job description

Telespazio Belgium can count on almost 40 years of experience in the field of Space Operations Service & Engineering activities.

On behalf of the European Space Agency, we are looking for a highly skilled Exploration Business Development Engineer to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.

What is expected from you:

  • The candidate shall support the Commercialisation and Innovation Team Leader in the management of industrial utilisation of human and automated infrastructures in Low Earth Orbit.
  • Industrial Utilisation Management Support
  • Support implementation of industrially driven and co-funded utilisation projects using ISS and/ or future human or automated LEO infrastructures and services.
  • Provide technical evaluations for commercial activity proposals (ProCeCA) reports for outcomes to the Utilisation Implementation Board.
  • Support the management of activities for established and new commercial partnerships related to focused science for exploration and utilisation of human and automated LEO infrastructures and developing new exploration capabilities in fields such as crew health and performance or habitation.
  • Provide technical support for the utilisation of ESA services provided in support of industrial utilisation of human and automated LEO infrastructures.
  • Provide technical support for the implementation of selected requests for information, call for ideas and invitation to tenders related to industrial LEO services and utilisation.
  • Develop and produce regular internal progress and technical status reporting including inputs for the Annual Report on E3P Commercial Activities for the ESA Programme Board for Human Spaceflight, Microgravity and Exploration (PB-HME).
  • Business Development Support
  • Support for selected assessment of markets enabled by the utilisation of automated and human LEO infrastructures.
  • Support the promotion of industrial utilisation opportunities by maintaining the ESA Business in Space Growth Network Web Portal, developing content for digital marketing campaigns and supporting the delivery of community engagement events.
  • Support and handle the delivery of innovation challenges aimed at stimulating industrial utilisation of human and automated LEO infrastructures and services.
  • Support for the development of new industrial utilisation capabilities and services on human and automated LEO platform and managing contracts and acceleration initiatives aimed at demonstrating new capabilities/ services in close coordination with the ESA Directorates of (TEC) and (STS).
  • Support the commercial scaling of industrial utilisation in close coordination with relevant experts from the Directorate of Commercialisation, Industry and Competitiveness (CIC).
  • Support for the implementation of selected requests for information, call for ideas and invitation to tenders related to industrial LEO services and utilisation.
  • Support the assessment of business models and plans of industrially driven projects.

What you offer:

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline is required.
  • A degree level qualification in economics and/ or business administration discipline is considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage and deliver small scale projects within costs and schedule.
  • Ability to develop and manage partnerships.
  • Experience in organising and managing the delivery of technical and programmatic reviews.
  • Experience in managing the end-to-end implementation of Requests for Information, Call for Ideas and Invitation to Tenders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industrial utilisation interests in human and automated LEO infrastructures and services and related markets.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of management processes applicable to human and robotic LEO infrastructures and services.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the European Space Exploration Envelope Programmes and the international programme framework or Space exploration.

Candidates must be eligible for security clearance from an EU Member State national security administration.

You will be working within ESTEC, the European Space Agency’s offices in the Netherlands as a contractor for Telespazio Belgium. We don’t expect the employees to be on-site full time however you will still have to relocate to the Netherlands for this position.
