Job description

The University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development (EHD) seeks a part-time Communications and Marketing Undergraduate Intern to support the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM). The intern will contribute to a wide range of projects that promote the school’s student recruitment efforts, brand visibility, digital communications, and more.

This role reports to the Senior Associate Director of Communications and collaborates closely with the OCM team to implement an integrated communications and marketing strategy. Duties include content creation, analytics reporting, and administrative work, such as updating email lists and managing office requests.

This role is primarily a sedentary job, with occasional travel around Grounds to attend school meetings and programs. The intern will gain valuable experience in research, writing, social media, events, and more. Flexible scheduling and occasional remote work are available to accommodate academic schedule.

Position Details:

Hours: Part-time (10-15 hours per week)

Location: In-person on Grounds at the University of Virginia in Bavaro Hall (occasional remote work available)

Duration: September 2025 – May 2026

Compensation: Anticipated hiring range is $16.00/hour. This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. For more information, refer to the Wage Employment policy: http://uvapolicy.virginia.edu/policy/HRM-029.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the school’s social media channels (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Create engaging content including social media posts, digital stories, and promotional materials
  • Monitor and report on social media analytics and campaign performance
  • Support website updates and content revision
  • Attend school events to capture photos and short video clips for marketing use
  • Collaborate with student ambassadors to produce social media conten
  • Maintain and update email marketing lists
  • Provide administrative support, including responding to office requests
  • Other duties as assigned


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current UVA undergraduate student (preference for students majoring in Communications, Media Studies, or related fields)
  • Experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Skills in photography and/or videography
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Interest in learning about strategic communications and higher education marketing
