This is a fully remote position.

The University of Vermont Health Network Finance Team is seeking its first accountant dedicated full-time to tax functions. In this role, you will gain unique and marketable insight into health care operations, nonprofit compliance, and tax accounting by following every dollar circulating throughout the Network. You will partner with each Network health care organization’s local accounting team to obtain information necessary to complete required tax activities, and you will have exposure to all levels of Network operations, including executive leadership, as you communicate on tax matters. You will acquire extensive expertise in return preparation particularly related to Form 990, but also related to sales and use tax, excise tax, compensation, and investment activity. While experience as a Certified Public Accountant will set you apart, CPA licensure is not required. Most importantly, you will bring enthusiasm for legal research, process improvement, and continuous learning to this opportunity.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position serves to establish and maintain uniform and effective and tax compliance functions for the University of Vermont Health Network, including return preparation and maintenance of tax-exempt status. This position will be responsible for aiding in the preparation and filing of all State and Federal tax returns for the University of Vermont Health Network.  This position will ensure compliance with relevant IRS and state regulations, provide advice on appropriate tax strategies and reporting for the Network, and work to mitigate risk to the organization from taxation and risk accounting processes.  The position will also serve to promote and effectuate Network-wide policies and procedures across member organizations 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or related field with significant coursework in Accounting and Taxation required.  MBA and/or CPA are preferred. Experience in the area of tax-exempt entities, particularly in the field of healthcare, is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Previous work in the area of taxation, preferably in a tax exempt or healthcare setting. Experience handling and resolving complex finance issues and interpreting financial statements, regulations, and agency guidance. 990 and 1120 tax preparation experience in public accounting preferred.
