Job description

Job Overview:

The Payroll Manager will lead and manage all activities related to international payroll processing, reporting, SOX, audit, business projects and vendor management for all legal entities and countries across a Continental region or a Cluster of the region.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of complex payroll department (60%)
  • Develop and implement processes reflecting best practices (20%)
  • Serve as the liaison between payroll and HR/Finance functional teams (5%)
  • Work with vendors on operational requirements (5%)
  • Develop measurable standards/metrics to measure accuracy (5%)
  • Facilitate quarter and yearend close (5%)
  • Maintain a high level of accountability for audit standards (5%)
  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of AMERICAS payroll and HR practices and processes.
  • Lead and supervise the payroll teams, coordinating the daily activities and prioritizing work load ensuring the delivery of a high quality service.
  • Lead the team through change and ensure processes and knowledge are adjusted accordingly.
  • Act as the AMERICAS focal point for internal communications, requests.
  • Act as a single escalation point for general questions and be responsible for issue resolution or escalation for the region.
  • Monitor Payroll Team performance and be able to provide mentoring and constructive mid-year and annual performance reviews.
  • Identify and assist in the implementation of process improvements for the AMERICAS region.
  • Responsible for overseeing that the AMERICAS Payroll teams are executing timely and accurate payroll processing across different countries, in strict accordance with the relevant statutory requirements.
  • Ensure timely and complete responses for all payroll queries and where required follow up with vendors or escalate to the Associate Director of Global Payroll AMERICAS/AMERICAS.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the AMERICAS Payroll Teams are adhering to the defined Fortrea global/operational Payroll procedures and Audit / SOX requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with the local country legislation and requirements, acting as the Fortrea point of contact for any enquiries arising from local statutory bodies (e.g. Tax and Social funds) or associated audits.
  • Lead the partnership with vendors, HR teams and all required stakeholders to ensure accurate & timely payroll processing and statutory compliance.

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, and/or computer science required - Fortrea may consider relevant and equivalent experience in lieu of educational requirements.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent data analytical skills, and ability to work cross-functionally with tax partners, accounting partners, and functional/technical architects.
  • Strong business acumen, and ability to navigate a highly matrixed environment to solve complex tax problems.

Experience (Minimum Required):  

  • 10+ years of experience in a payroll leadership role
  • 5+ years of experience in Global Payroll experience

Preferred Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree or equivalent in accounting, general business,
  • Payroll Certifications are preferred.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Home-Based (Remote), as requested by the line manager.
