Role and Responsibilities

The Director of Technical Sales will be responsible for driving Samsung’s network RAN products and solutions for the T-Mobile network account nationwide.  This is a direct customer-facing Technical Account Director role specifically for Wireless 4G/5G technology, and you will be instrumental in driving technical discussions for T-Mobile's Radio Access network. In partnership with Samsung’s network sales team dedicated to T-Mobile, you will work to identify T-Mobile’s technical needs so that technical solutions can be developed and positioned to drive sales revenue targets. You will be relied upon as the technical SME for all things needed by T-Mobile. This encompasses pre-sales, technical design and post-sales support (to ensure what was promised was delivered).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports business meetings initiated by Samsung’s T-Mobile Account Sales Leadership to increase existing sales and introduce new products.

  • Provides expert technical support in the pre-sales process and creates compelling technical and commercial solutions in order to help achieve the assigned sales goals and business objectives.

  • Translates and communicates complex technical design considerations between the Samsung sales team and T-Mobile’s network business (sales calls, joint network design discussions, etc.)

  • Takes the lead in technical Q&A for Samsung’s Wireless Network infrastructure products,  applications and professional services.

  • Develops deep relationships within T-Mobile’s network business at multiple levels of the technical organization and nationwide market; Establish/maintain trust and rapport as the SME for technical network solutions. Create proposals based on new and existing contractual agreements.

  • Educate our T-Mobile network customers on Samsung’s new products and services both individually and in a team environment.

  • Ensures that customer commitments are achieved according to plan.

  • Works with Samsung marketing and engineering teams for product development plans, schedules, and product introductions

  • Works closely with various support organizations, logistics, and cross- functional teams from SEA and Samsung HQ to achieve successful new product roll-outs and developments.

Background/Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred. 20+ total years of experience within the Wireless/Networks technology industry (Radio / RF engineering, 5G/LTE Design, Wireless Network design, RF Planning, etc.); DEEP hands-on experience with air interface; knowledge/understanding in packet core (end-2-end network).

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Radio/RF planning and working with 5G/LTE (LTE must be in a hands-on capacity or consultative design capacity).

  • 10+ years of experience in a customer-facing role. Must possess the ability to analyze, interpret, present (including presentation creation) wireless systems technical products and development materials to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Understanding of 3GPP systems: Core and RAN networks

  • Understanding of Network Virtualization and Cloud Technologies

  • Strong knowledge in 5G and 4G technologies and network architecture, specifically focused on Radio Access Network

  • Good understanding of overall Wireless systems with emphasis on Air Interface, PHY, MAC, RLC, RRC and PDCP layers

  • Experience with SW development is beneficial

  • Understanding of HW as well as SW architecture

  • Must possess the ability to THRIVE in a highly dynamic cross-functional environment (partnership across Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Global HQ, etc.) PLUS navigate a complex customer (T-Mobile’s) stakeholders and business unit; Interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate an organization and manage-via-influence is just as paramount as the technical ability.

Necessary Skills and attributes:

The ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects, sales and simultaneous performance objectives. Work independently in determining ones personal work schedule to be productive.  Work in a team environment, in order to achieve personal and team project milestones and to complete assignments within established time frames.   Accept tasks and problems/situations that differ, requiring creativity to search for optimal solutions, when only broad and general guidelines exist for solving problems.  The ability to utilize implied knowledge of task alternatives and to make spontaneous decisions using past experience and the guidance and/or successful experiences of others. Demonstrated ability to interact at multiple levels within customers organizations.   Negotiate with and convince others, in a potentially adversarial environment, including customer directors, managers and staff with opposing views to accept/approve plans, technical and project recommendations. Make professional technical sales presentations in writing, through email, reports, or orally, to an audience of high technical skills, management and operational experience. Ability to achieve results within established time frames and requirements.   Develop accurate proposals and designs to meet customer needs.

The salary range for this role is expected to be between $227,000 and $252,000.  Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
