Job description

This position supervises outside counsel in the management of some of the most complex cases. You will report to a senior manager, legal.

Position Compensation Range:

$111,000.00 - $190,000.00

Pay Rate Type:

Salary

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Supervise litigation involving either the corporation and/or its insured within established corporate guidelines and the applicable code of professional responsibility.
  • Analyze file as litigation progresses. Evaluate cases and seek settlement as necessary.
  • Oversee outside counsel throughout litigation of complex claims.  
  • Review motions and briefs during course of litigation and provide necessary feedback.
  • Conduct legal research and draft opinions as necessary.
  • Observe court hearing and trials as necessary.
  • Stay current on state statutes and court decisions and analyzes how statutes and court decisions affect the interpretation and enforceability of the various policy provisions.
  • Supervise litigation with a higher complexity across multiple lines of business.


Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service

  • Demonstrated experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery and deposing witnesses.

  • Demonstrated litigation experience.

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice.

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law.

  • Admitted to the state bar in the state where they are located or (1) admission to the bar within one year of hire for individuals who must pass a bar exam or portions of a bar exam to be admitted or (2) bar admission as soon as practicable but no later than 60 days of hire for individuals with diploma privilege or who are eligible for in-house counsel registration.

In this primarily field-based role, you will spend 80% of your time working in the field, directly interacting with customers, Agents, Agency Staff, etc. On occasion you may be asked to travel to an office location for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, trainings, and culture events. 

East Coast is the desired location.
