Job description

Job Title: Strategic Technical Consultant – Nearshore Development Center (Argentina)

About Assembly Industries

Talent is distributed but Opportunities are not - Assembly Industries is breaking that pattern by building an AI enabled talent platform that connects top-tier, highly skilled global professionals with innovative companies across the US. As a fast-growing startup, we are laser-focused on impactful growth, agile strategies, and exceptional results.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Consultant to advise Assembly Industries on establishing a nearshore development center in Argentina, with a specific focus on AI services and technical consulting. This is a short-term, high-impact engagement consisting of a series of strategic calls designed to help us make informed decisions as we scale a team of software engineers, tech leads, engineering managers, and technical product managers in the region.

You’ll draw on your firsthand operational experience building and managing technology teams or services firms in Argentina (or LATAM), and provide actionable insights across talent strategy, recruiting, legal setup, and operational best practices. Your guidance will directly influence our expansion strategy in Latin America.

Key Responsibilities

Consulting & Strategic Guidance

  • Lead 2–3 strategic consulting sessions (1–2 hours each) with our executive and operations teams.
  • Advise on setting up a long-term, sustainable development presence in Argentina.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices from your own experience building or scaling technology teams in LATAM.
  • Provide insights into the software talent landscape in Argentina particularly for AI/ML, backend, data, and product roles.
  • Discuss sourcing channels, recruiting strategies, and compensation benchmarks.
  • Advise on attracting and retaining high-caliber technical talent in a competitive market.

Operational & Legal Considerations

  • Educate us on local employment laws, contractor vs. full-time employee dynamics, and compliance concerns.

  • Offer guidance on HR, payroll, and tax setup for operating a development center in Argentina.

  • Recommend trusted vendors and platforms to help streamline operational infrastructure.

Infrastructure & Team Integration

  • Share insights on hybrid/remote work norms, office space considerations, and general logistics.

  • Provide advice on aligning a nearshore team with a U.S.-based product and engineering organization.

  • Offer recommendations for building high-trust, high-performance cross-border technical teams.

A Day in the Life

Initial Call:

  • Introductory meeting with our leadership team to understand our goals and current operating model.
  • Share an overview of the Argentinian tech ecosystem and what to expect when entering the market.

Follow-up Session(s):

  • Deep-dive into sourcing and hiring strategy, including role definitions, salary ranges, and recruiting partners.
  • Walk through operational and legal considerations for entity setup, contracts, and compliance.
  • Provide real-world examples and pitfalls to avoid from your own experience.
  • Optional follow-up call to answer outstanding questions and advise on next steps.
  • Share key resources, checklists, or templates to help operationalize your recommendations.

Key Skills & Qualifications

Domain & Operational Knowledge:

  • 10+ years of experience in technology services, consulting, or product delivery.

  • Direct experience building or managing development centers, consultancies, or technical teams in Argentina or broader LATAM.

  • Deep understanding of the local tech talent market, including recruiting, compensation, and retention.

  • Familiarity with Argentina’s employment laws, contractor vs. FTE dynamics, and HR/payroll/tax setup.

  • Understanding of infrastructure logistics, remote/hybrid work norms, and vendor selection.

AI & Product Delivery Experience:

  • Bonus: Experience with AI/ML consulting, technical product delivery, or managing teams focused on AI services.

Consultative Skills:

  • Strong communicator with a pragmatic, no-fluff approach to advising U.S.-based startups and scaleups.
