Description

Discover Durham is Durham’s marketing and sales agency, helping draw nearly 12 million leisure, business, and sports visitors to our vibrant, eclectic community prior to the pandemic. We’re looking for an Accounting and Budget Manager to join our Operations team. This person will oversee/execute all day-to-day accounting functions (e.g., payables, receivables) including various monthly reports and analysis.  They will facilitate the budgeting process and manage the annual audit process.

 

This job requires a strong attention to detail, the ability to self-direct and prioritize competing tasks. This role reports directly to the Senior Accounting and Budget Manager.
 

Most Important Responsibilities:

Finance

  • Execute all day-to-day accounting functions in a timely and accurate manner:
    • Payables
    • Receivables
    • Oversight of Purchase Requisitions & Purchase Orders
  • Credit Card Maintenance
    • Account tracking
    • Expense report reconciliation
  • Assist in the timely completion of tax reports
    • Sales tax
    • 1099’s
    • W-9’s
  • Financial Management
    • Short and long-term cash flow monitoring, management, and reporting
    • Budget development
    • Analysis and forecasting
  • Responsible for all necessary accounting & budget reports
    • Purchase Order Reports
    • Financial Status Report (Actual vs. Budget)
    • Summary Expenditure Budget Report (Trial Balance)
    • Balance Sheet
    • General Ledger
  • Upkeep of Accounting Procedures Documentation
  • Ensure full compliance with Discover Durham accounting policies and procedures
  • Manage the Petty Cash function
  • Manage the audit process, including preparation/collection of appropriate reports and documentation

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree with 2-3 years of experience
  • CPA or ability of obtain CPA preferred
  • Hands-on experience in accounting software preferred (QuickBooks preferred)
  • Knowledge of standard accounting and budget procedures (GAAP)
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Exceptional attention to detail/accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
