Job Description:

You will support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with a Veteran first vision to transform the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) with greater visibility into claims processing. Responsibilities:

· Build and maintain data pipelines to extract, transform, and load structured and unstructured data into scalable AWS-based data platforms.

· Design and optimize data architectures using AWS services like Glue, Redshift, S3, Athena, Lambda, EMR, and RDS.

· Implement and enforce data governance, security, and quality policies in accordance with VA standards.

· Support data ingestion from legacy systems and external partners, including OCR, APIs, and flat files.

· Develop reusable scripts and automation for data transformation and orchestration (Python, SQL, PySpark, etc.).

· Collaborate with analysts and data scientists to support advanced analytics and ML initiatives.

· Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune performance of ETL workflows and database systems.

· Contribute to DevSecOps and CI/CD practices for data engineering components.

Required Skills:

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

· 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or cloud data platforms.

· Hands-on experience with AWS data services (Glue, S3, Redshift, Lambda, Athena, etc.).

· Proficiency in Python, SQL, and ETL development.

· Familiarity with data lake and data warehouse architectures.

· Experience with DevOps tools, version control (Git), and CI/CD pipelines.

· Understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance in regulated environments.

· Experience with healthcare or government datasets is a plus.

· AWS certifications such as Data Analytics – Specialty or Solutions Architect preferred.

· Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting

The likely salary range for this position is $100,300 - $135,700. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
