Forge alternate worlds that deepen players' lives! We're a game development studio based in Los Angeles, dedicated to the idea that online games can deliver deeper, more meaningful experiences.

We’re seeking a Senior Manager, Engineering—a hands-on Technical Director—to lead the development of core gameplay and systems across one or more project teams. You’ll manage multiple engineering pods, provide technical direction, and collaborate with design, production, and art leadership to deliver high-quality player experiences.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who balances deep technical expertise with people-first management and cross-functional partnership.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and manage multiple engineering teams, overseeing gameplay systems, tools, infrastructure, or content pipelines.
  • Set technical direction and architectural standards in collaboration with tech leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Guide engineering leads and senior developers, ensuring software quality, system stability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Review and approve code and technical designs; provide hands-on support when needed in prototyping, optimization, or problem-solving.
  • Balance product goals, timelines, and technical trade-offs, ensuring features are scoped and delivered effectively.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Art leads to align technical solutions with player experience goals.
  • Support the professional growth of your team through coaching, feedback, and career development.
  • Contribute to team process and culture, helping evolve best practices in planning, testing, code review, documentation, and communication.
  • Participate in planning and make input into strategic goals at the org level, helping shape the future of tech at S6.
Who You Are
  • You’ve led multiple teams or major product areas, driving the delivery of complex game or software systems from vision to execution.
  • You take ownership of technical strategy, team structure, and delivery outcomes—balancing engineering excellence with cross-functional alignment.
  • You’ve played a key role in building and scaling teams, hiring and mentoring engineers and managers, and fostering a high-trust, inclusive culture.
  • You’re known for identifying bottlenecks early, unblocking teams, and navigating ambiguity with clarity and confidence.
  • You care about both what gets built and how teams work together to build it—and you lead by example on both fronts.
Nice to Have
  • Background in cozy, simulation, or multiplayer games.
  • Familiarity with live game operations or service-oriented architecture.
  • Experience scaling teams and processes in a startup or high-growth environment.
