Accounting QA Analyst / Accounting Systems Analyst / Accounting Software Analyst / Accounting Product QA Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Systems Analyst to join our Accounting team. This role bridges the gap between accounting accuracy, system functionality, and implementation support. You will play a vital role in validating the integrity of our financial data and workflows, assisting with product quality assurance, and supporting feature development from an accounting perspective.

This is a cyclical, hands-on role ideal for someone with strong accounting knowledge (above a staff accountant level), experience with web-based accounting systems, and the ability to work cross-functionally with developers, QA, and implementation teams. We are looking for someone with solid accounting skills and a problem-solving mindset. We will train you on how to perform QA, report bugs, and coordinate effectively with developers to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our system.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily

- Validate accounting data and reports in both live and dev environments to ensure accuracy and consistency.

- Perform QA checks on Plum Accounting features, with a focus on journal entries, GL mappings, and core accounting logic.

- Monitor data imports from systems like Altametrics and ensure integrations behave as expected.

- Review and help elaborate on accounting-related support tickets with clear reproduction steps and business context.

Weekly

- Generate and reconcile weekly P&L statements to ensure integration data matches internal reports.

- Attend secondary meetings (e.g., QA, implementation) and provide meeting summaries to leadership.

- Support weekly regression QA testing to ensure no accounting logic regressions are introduced.

- Collaborate on ticket grooming, especially for features or issues tied to accounting workflows.

- Assist the implementation team by translating client feedback into actionable developer tickets.

Monthly

- Audit accounting workflows such as AP/AR aging, bank reconciliations, and journal entries to ensure accuracy.

- Benchmark competitor accounting systems and contribute insights to improve PlumAccounting features.

- Update and maintain internal documentation on accounting procedures, system behavior, and client processes.

- Research accounting functionalities and produce clear, actionable documentation for engineering implementation.

- Consolidate and present recurring client/accounting concerns to inform product direction.

Ongoing / As-Needed

- Act as a liaison between the implementation and developer teams to ensure proper accounting behavior and communication.

- Provide ongoing validation and feedback to ensure Plum Accounting adheres to standard accounting principles.

- Assist with ad-hoc QA or documentation tasks to relieve bandwidth from other team members.

- Review and refine internal SOPs and documentation from an accounting standpoint.

Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA certification is a plus but not required.

- 3+ years of hands-on accounting experience, ideally with exposure to accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero).

- Experience with QA or software testing processes is a strong advantage.

- Solid understanding of core accounting principles (GL, AP/AR, P&L, journal entries, etc.).

- Excellent documentation and communication skills.

- Comfortable working with spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) for reconciliation and reporting tasks.
