Job Summary: The Network Infrastructure Engineer assists in the planning and implementation of network projects in collaboration with senior engineers. This role is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of the health system’s network infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity across all locations. The engineer provides technical support for network-related incidents, proactively monitors system health and ensures all configurations comply with hospital security policies, HIPAA regulations, and industry standards. They also maintain accurate network documentation, assist in projects requiring cross-functional collaboration, and participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.

Minimum Education: Associate's degree, Technical or Vocational School degree in IT or related field, preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance required for off-campus system support in accordance with Saint Francis Health System (SFHS) guidelines. Cisco Certified Network Associate and Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate, preferred.

Work Experience: Minimum 1 year experience. Experience with Juniper Switching, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Solid knowledge and understanding of networking fundamentals including Internet Protocol (IP) addressing, subnetting, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Virtual Local Area Network (VLANs), and routing protocols (e.g., Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Boarder Gateway Protocol (BGP)). Basic knowledge of scripting. Knowledge of enterprise-grade platforms (Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Fortinet, Netscaler etc.). Basic knowledge of network monitoring and management tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, or equivalent. Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and other applicable software including Visio. Proficient ability in troubleshooting switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless networks using diagnostic tools. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users. Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or critical downtime scenarios. Sound ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Monitors and maintains the health and performance of network infrastructure, resolving issues promptly to minimize disruption. Configures, installs, and supports physical and virtual network equipment and associated software. Provides support for network-related incidents and service requests escalated by the help desk or operations teams. Maintains accurate network documentation including diagrams, IP address schemas, and hardware/software inventories. Participates in after-hours on-call rotation as required, along with necessary site visits. Ensures all network activity aligns with hospital security policies, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements, and compliance standards. Collaborates with administrative and clinical departments to ensure networking needs are met for applications, medical devices, and operational systems. Performs site visits and support work across hospital campuses and remote clinic locations as needed. Follows organizational change control practices.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision.

Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.

Special Job Dimensions: Requires travel to remote sites using personal vehicle.
