Job description

Why Paragon? In 2014, Paragon was incepted in a Starbucks coffee shop with a simple strategy — build the MGA that we would want to work for. Years later, Paragon is one of the fastest growing MGAs in the country. Our secret? A dedication to diversity and agility. We realized from the start that a commitment to thinking, acting, and rewarding “different” would resonate within the industry. It is hard to argue with results, and the results are clear. Our diverse team of talent is reshaping an industry that has weathered “boring” and is long overdue on “different.” Whether it comes by offering better pay, benefits or growth opportunities, we will continue to aggressively invest in talent to drive our business forward. Change is here, come be a part of it with us.

Formed as a broadly diversified MGA, Paragon supports retail agents and insurance carriers, and reinsurers with our strong underwriting talent, broad capabilities, sophisticated operations, and varied business interests. Our goal: To help our partners do business better. And we do.

The Underwriting Assistant provides high-level support to underwriters and underwriting managers across program business accounts. This position plays a key role in facilitating end-to-end underwriting operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of new and renewal business, endorsements, and audits. The role requires strong technical knowledge of commercial lines and program structures, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to support underwriting workflow within fast-paced, high-volume environments.

This role can be a hybrid work arrangement from our Avon, CT office or Remote.

 Responsibilities:

  • Manage intake and triage of new submissions, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations for assigned programs.
  • Prepare underwriting files and ensure completeness of documentation prior to underwriter review.
  • Enter and maintain data in policy administration and rating systems; ensure data accuracy and alignment with underwriting guidelines.
  • Generate quotes, binders, and policy documents under supervision or within delegated authority.
  • Track and manage service-level timelines to ensure deadlines are met across all program-related tasks.
  • Communicate with brokers, MGAs, and internal departments to collect missing information and respond to status inquiries.
  • Assist with program onboarding, audits, bordereaux reconciliation, and reporting as needed.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and support continuous improvement efforts in workflow and service delivery.
  • Stay current on internal underwriting guidelines, carrier requirements, and program-specific procedures.

 Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or related field preferred.
  • Insurance certifications (e.g., AINS, CPCU) a plus.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in an underwriting support role, preferably with experience in program or delegated authority business.
  • Solid understanding of commercial lines insurance (e.g., GL, Property, Auto, WC, or Specialty lines).
  • Familiarity with underwriting platforms, document management systems, and rating tools.

 Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Excel skills highly valued.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across internal and external teams.
