Job Description

Job Description:

The Goucher College’s Graduate & Professional Studies seeks non-tenure track adjunct faculty to teach the following graduate course listed below within the MA in Applied Policy Analysis (APA) program.  The course will be offered synchronously online (via Teams), starting on August 28, 2025. The instructor will be required to maintain a Canvas site for course resources. Of particular interest are candidates who have experience teaching and engaging students from diverse backgrounds. We are particularly interested in candidates who can deepen our students’ understanding of the interactions between the theoretical understanding of the material and its real-world application. Contracts for adjunct faculty are subject to renewal on a semester-by-semester basis, depending on factors such as enrollment, instructor availability, and student success.

Economics for Policy Analysis – This course introduces students to the field of economics and explores how societies manage their scarce resources, making it a powerful tool for analyzing policy issues like climate change, poverty, inequality, healthcare, and housing. This course emphasizes microeconomic tools relevant to policy analysis and social justice, including concepts like resource scarcity, opportunity cost, consumer and firm behavior, and measures of economic efficiency, while also touching on broader key macroeconomic topics.

Requirements:

A successful candidate would be able to begin teaching on August 28, 2025.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field in Economics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a degree with equivalent experience will be considered.
  • At least one year of experience teaching at the college level.
  • Comfortable working with students from diverse disciplinary and professional backgrounds, including those without strong math or coding foundations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D., J.D., or other terminal degree in Economics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a degree with equivalent experience will be considered.
  • A background in applied microeconomics is preferred.
  • Ability to teach diverse learners (e.g., students with policy, nonprofit, or humanities backgrounds) and guide students through individual projects and team-based work.

Salary: 4,200 to $4,330 per course (dependent on OR commensurate with qualifications)

The review of applications will begin on August 1, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled.
