The The Workvivo team is seeking a Software Engineer who has hands-on experience in building high-performance search functionality across multiple data sources. Ideal candidates will have expertise in Elasticsearch or OpenSearch and will join a dynamic, dynamic product and engineering team driving innovative solutions. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, building and supporting our enterprise search platform — powering intelligent, high-performance search experiences.

Responsibilities

Developing an Enterprise Search solution: Architect and implement robust search infrastructure using Elasticsearch / OpenSearch to support fast, relevant, and secure enterprise-level queries.
Integrating Diverse Data Sources: Design and maintain scalable indexing pipelines across structured and unstructured content from platforms like Confluence, Google Drive, SharePoint, and internal systems.
Optimizing Relevance and Performance: Tune relevance scoring, query execution, and index structures to ensure fast, accurate results across large-scale datasets.
Ensuring High Availability and Observability: Build resilient, observable systems using monitoring, alerting, and failover strategies suitable for enterprise use.
Collaborating with Cross-Functional Teams: Partner with backend engineers, product managers and QA to deliver intuitive and intelligent search experiences.
Championing Search Best Practices: Contribute to search UX discussions, metadata strategies, and content structuring for maximum discoverability and engagement.
Engaging in Development Processes: Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and development sprints to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

What we’re looking for

Have 5+ years of experience working with Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Lucene-based search technologies
Have deep understanding of indexing strategies, query DSL, relevance tuning, and distributed search architecture.
Have experience working with Relational Databases (MySQL) and SQL with an understanding of how to optimise performance
Have advanced background in backend development (PHP/Laravel would be advantageous) and working with RESTful APIs.
Have experience in working with 3rd party API integrations, tokens, OAuth and other authentication systems
Have experience working with vector search and k-NN algorithms for semantic retrieval or hybrid search use cases.
Have experience managing data ingestion pipelines across multiple content sources and formats.
Have ability to contribute to feature planning and system design discussions.
Have familiarity with security models for enterprise search, including role-based access control and index-level permissions.
Have hands-on experience with performance monitoring tools, logging systems, and scalability best practices and the ability to contribute to feature planning and system design discussions.
