Job description

We are now looking for a

Senior Business Development Manager – Energy Storage & Optimization

to join our team working for a better future.

The position is permanent and remotely based in Germany or you can be situated in our offices in Hamburg, Germany.

What you will be doing

You will be accountable for leading energy storage sales for crossfunctional teams. You will have a leading role to ensure we have predictable profitable sales, and project execution.

You will be reporting to the Area Sales Director.

As the Senior Business Development Manager, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Lead energy storage sales opportunities from the initial bid to award and contract execution
  • Vet customers and opportunities to ensure efficient resource use
  • Manage and maintain key account relationships
  • Ensure correct pricing strategies and accurate cost estimations
  • Lead stakeholders and project sales team to achieve business unit goals
  • Utilise S&OP data as a basis when assessing the correct cost estimations and schedules
  • Ensure tenders and requirements are understood in detail within the project sales team and highquality offers are prepared
  • Ensure risks are evaluated and mitigated properly
  • Ensure necessary internal reviews are conducted and approvals received
  • Ensure Wärtsilä contracting policies are followed and proper contract terms are achieved
  • Lead contract negotiations and prepare winning sales negotiation strategies
  • Manage and report the progress of project sales in CRM (Salesforce) accurately
  • Ensure proper sales documentation in closing deals
  • Ensure sales are properly transferred to the project execution team
  • Drive Wärtsilä purpose and demonstrate Wärtsilä values of customer success, passion, and performance
    • Your success will be measured by

      • Successful project sales with endtoend profitability
      • Sales team engagement, stakeholder collaboration, and customer satisfaction
        • To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

          • 5 years experience in the utilityscale renewable energy industry, with a strong preference toward candidates with prior battery energy storage experience
          • Promote and never sacrifice safety
          • Is a senior sales leader with a strong track record of leading highperforming crossfunctional teams
          • Solution orientated
          • Has a strong track record of negotiating complex sales projects
          • Contractual and risk management experience
          • Influencing and communication skills especially when working with crossfunctional teams and external stakeholders
          • Lead by example and facilitate collaboration across organisations
          • Broad understanding of energy storage business, solutions, and market outlook
          • Has commercial and customer mindset combined with a structural approach
          • Outstanding team player and excellent coaching skills
          • Drive results with planning, change management, and execution skills
          • Inspire people to take actions towards goals
          • Appreciate diversity and ability to build psychological safety and inclusion within the organisation
          • Readiness to travel
            • (In this role, some travel is required to meet with our customers around the world. Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel approximately 20%, even though most of the meetings are held virtually.)
