Job description

The purpose of this role is to support the Istituto Marangoni Dubai teaching and learning community by overseeing the 3D Printing and Laser Cutting Lab, ensuring technical support and safe, efficient use of digital fabrication equipment for Interior Design and Fashion Design students.

As Lab Technician, you will be responsible for supervising and assisting students during their lab sessions, reviewing files submitted for printing or cutting, and maintaining the functionality and organization of the laboratory environment and equipment.

You will also contribute to the creative and academic environment of the School by enabling experimentation and handson prototyping for curricular and extracurricular projects.

    • Technical and Educational Support Activities

      • Provide handson technical assistance to students during scheduled lab sessions (2–3 times per week), including setup, supervision, and troubleshooting of 3D printing and laser cutting processes.

      • Review, prepare, and finalize students digital files for successful fabrication according to lab safety and quality standards.

      • Support the educational delivery of both Interior Design and Fashion Design courses by assisting with technical execution of courserelated prototypes and physical modelmaking. Ensure proper documentation of lab use and assist in the preparation of instructional materials and safety guidelines.

      • Monitor the usage of materials and consumables and maintain adequate stock levels. Report needs restoring the relevant department. Maintain all lab equipment in optimal condition, performing routine maintenance and coordinating any required technical service with external providers when necessary.

      • Ensure the safety of students and faculty using the lab, adhering to institutional policies and protocols for equipment use.

        • Students’ Academic and Technical Support

          • Guide students in understanding fabrication processes, materials, and machine operations.

          • Encourage safe, accurate, and innovative use of digital fabrication tools in student projects.

          • Provide individualized support to students with varying levels of technical skill, helping them to translate their digital designs into physical prototypes. Support students in troubleshooting errors in their model files or machine outputs. Liaise with faculty members to ensure that lab activities align with course objectives and timelines.

          • Foster an environment of experimentation and problemsolving within the lab setting.

            • Educational and Professional Requirements

              • Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Product Design, Engineering, Industrial Design, Digital Fabrication, or a related field.

              • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a fabrication lab, maker space, or similar technical environment.

              • Demonstrated expertise in operating and maintaining 3D printers and laser cutting machines.

              • Previous experience working with students or in an educational context is preferred.

              • Familiarity with design file formats (e.g., STL, DXF) and CAD software (e.g., Rhino, Fusion360, Illustrator, Cura, PreForm, etc.).

              • UAE residency preferred.

              • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple requests and workflows.

              • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and external service providers.

              • Commitment to health and safety standards in a lab setting.
