The ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine (ACMGF) is the philanthropic arm of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Founded in 1992, ACMGF is committed to advancing the field of medical genetics and genomics by providing philanthropic funding to support the priorities of the ACMG. The vision of the foundation is to be the catalyst, through strategic funding and partnerships, that advances genetic and genomic medicine to ensure all persons have access to innovative diagnostics, timely expert care, and breakthrough discoveries.

Job Description

The Director of Development will be a strategic thoughtpartner, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who will develop ACMGF’s culture of philanthropy across staff and volunteer leadership. This role will be responsible for growing sustainable revenue by creating a strong stewardship process that engages the Board and executive team in cultivating significant partnerships. This role will plan, manage, and coordinate all fundraising activities, including setting goals, cultivating and soliciting individual and corporate prospects, stewarding donors, managing annual appeals, and other developmentrelated activities. The successful candidate will also grow the donor base by thinking creatively about prospect identification, as well as by leveraging the ACMG Foundation’s resources to attract and engage new donors, build visibility, and showcase impact of a donor’s investment.

The Director of Development will play a critical role in partnering with the executive leadership team in strategic decision making and operations for the ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine as we continue to enhance quality programming and build capacity. 60% Annual Giving, Major Gifts, and Corporate Giving

  • Collaborate with the CEO in the creation of a strategy for a large, sustained base of annual individual donors
  • Connect organizational mission and results to donor’s philanthropic goals and ambitions
  • Design and drive strategies for annual giving program, including online giving and direct mail
  • Direct and execute a strong, consistent, relational major gifts program and systematize a planned giving program
  • In collaboration with the CEO secure support for ACMGF initiatives through creative, innovative events and giving opportunities
  • Develop, in partnership with CEO the annual strategy and goals for philanthropic events
  • Develop a comprehensive corporate giving strategy to engage corporations in supporting ACMGF’s initiatives
  • In collaboration with the CEO, develop annual grant strategy and goals that build and sustain relationships with private foundations
  • Collaborate with department directors to refine grantseeking strategies, cultivate funders, review grant applications and finalize reports
      • Manage the implementation of association management system to oversee staff responsible and process for data entry and gift processing.
        • 25% Leadership and Management

          • Lead a partnership with the CEO, Leadership Team, Board of Directors and to design and fulfill annual fundraising strategy and goals
          • Oversee and direct the implementation of the annual development plan
          • Design strategies and tactics for growth and success across all areas of fundraising
          • Monitor fundraising results and consistently report progress to the CEO and the Board of Directors; participate in the Board Meetings and Committees, as requested
          • Collaborate internally to develop budgets, monitor and forecast revenue and expenses, and drive financial results
          • Manage and empower the development team and contractors in designing and fulfilling their goals
          • Lead quantitative and qualitative evaluation of fundraising outcomes, resulting in informed, datadriven, and investorcentric strategies
          • Work closely and collaboratively with the CEO and the Board Development Committee to build and empower the Board’s capacity, capability, consistency, and confidence in fundraising
          • Generate new ideas that increase revenue and investor longevity
            • 15% Development and Philanthropic Communications

              • In conjunction with the CEO and Director of Communications & Public Relations, develop a comprehensive developmentfocused communications strategy, integrating into ACMGF’s larger plan for a growing awareness of ACMGF’s impact and role in the community
              • Manage donor communications for highlevel, strategic fundraising opportunities
              • Communicate fundraising goals throughout the organization and empower team members to participate in accomplishing ACMGF’s annual goals
                • Qualifications
                  • Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of relevant work experience is required
                  • Minimum of ten (10) years of frontline fundraising experience for a nonprofit organization, and thorough knowledge of development best practices
                  • Background or relevant work experience in the medical, science, or genetics field strongly desired
                  • Significant record of fundraising achievement with increasing levels of responsibility with a track record of successfully soliciting high five and six figure gifts
                  • Enthusiasm for the ACMG Foundation’s mission to advance the field of medical genetics and genomics
                  • Demonstrative effectiveness working with boards, volunteers, and a wide range of constituents
                  • Selfmotivated with superior interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with coworkers, Board members, donors, prospects and high net worth individuals
                  • Must have especially strong writing and listening skills
                  • Effective critical and strategic thinker
                  • Strong project management skills; able to selfmanage own projects to completion and collaborate with others
                  • Sound grant writing experience
                  • Evidenced competence in budget planning and management
                  • Capable of working with crossfunctional teams and leading by example
                  • Ability to manage numerous responsibilities simultaneously
                  • Flexible and adaptable; ability to perform well in an entrepreneurial environment
                  • Knowledge of fundraising databases; experience with iMIS a plus
                  • Strong project management skills including the ability to organize and prioritize and handle multiple tasks to meet multiple competing deadlines and the ability to delegate projects to the team
                  • Proven and skilled individual with the ability to effectively and efficiently solve problems and create new customer and team opportunities
                  • Possess a professional presence and strong work ethic and commitment to customer service
                  • Ability to maintain productive and professional working relationships with team members, CollegeFoundation leadership, planning committees, members, meeting attendees, exhibitors and sponsors
                    • Additional Information

                      Pay Range:

                      $180,000 – $195,000

                      The ACMGF pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
