Job Description

Are you someone who thrives on problem-solving, enjoys working with numbers, and wants to be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team? We’re looking for a Cost Reporting Specialist who is ready to dive into a unique and dynamic role at the intersection of finance, compliance, and strategy.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in helping us maintain compliance with state and federal funding agencies. You’ll translate general ledger data into various cost reporting formats required by different states and counties—each with their own rules, limitations, and quirks. Think of it like preparing multiple versions of a state tax return—some are simple, some complex, and all require accuracy and attention to detail.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Evaluate current accounting systems, workflows, and data processes, and recommend improvements to enhance cost reporting efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of cost report data and financial analyses in support of regulatory requirements and organizational needs.
  • Support the controller during cost report desk and field audits, including organizing documentation and responding to information requests.
  • Collaborate with government agencies and external accounting vendors, ensuring service contracts are received and charges are accurate.
  • Respond to audit requests from governmental agencies with support from the controller, providing detailed documentation and financial data as required.
  • Provide monthly operations summaries and ad hoc financial reporting as requested.
  • Conduct financial research and assist in developing forecast reports to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Present project updates and cost analysis reports to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with state operational partners and funding agencies to resolve cost reporting or compliance issues.
  • Foster long-term relationships with stakeholders to strengthen interdepartmental and external partnerships.
  • Creates a collaborative environment and implements strategies that encourage teamwork, communication, and shared responsibility.  The ability to lead a group of accountants and non-accountants toward common goal. 

Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or an equivalent combination of  3+ experience and education.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems- ( we use Dynamics GP) 
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and other financial software
  • Must possess sound decision-making skills and exercise independent judgment
  • Be a self starter - this is a lone wolf position 
  • Flexibility- ability  to deal with multiple stressful deadlines concurrently  

Nice to Have:

  • Possess a reporting background and have experience working with multiple business entities.
  • Possess cost accounting experience.
  •  Experience with Workday platform
