Summary of Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team, with a specialized focus on capitalized software accounting. This role is critical in ensuring the accurate tracking, capitalization, and amortization of internally developed software costs in accordance with US GAAP and company policy. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of software development processes, capitalization rules (ASC 350-40), and experience working cross-functionally with engineering and product teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepare complex spreadsheets to prepare capitalization calculations for internally developed software for employees and contractors based on eligible work allocations and compensation/third party cost data.

  • Prepare spreadsheets to accurately track capitalized software costs for amortization purposes.

  • Accurately prepare accruals, journal entries, balance sheet and P&L reconciliations as part of the monthly, quarterly and annual close process

  • Maintain and balance accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions  

  • Assist with ongoing account reconciliation and specific projects, ensuring that general ledger accounts are resolved and reconciled

  • Act as Control Owner for critical SOX control procedures covering capitalized software.

  • Prepare schedules and documentation for external audit and various ad hoc and special projects

  • Assist in the preparation of footnote disclosures for capitalized software in financial statements.

  • Work with IT partners and consultants to pursue automation opportunities to reduce manual work.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to help reduce time to close and improve upon accuracy of underlying accounting records.

  • Continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Teladoc’s accounting processes

  • Effectively interact with senior management, external auditors, and various internal departments.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years focused on capitalized software and cloud computing in a SAAS or technology public company

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and practices (U.S .GAAP), with an expertise in ASC 350-40 (Internal-Use Software) and and  internal controls, GL account analyses and financial statement reconciliations

  • The ability to research and apply fundamental accounting theories and concepts under US GAAP

  • Strong analytical abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and produce under pressure

Qualifications Preferred

  • Experience with a Big 4 or regional accounting firm is a plus

  • Corporate accounting and GL close experience

  • Experience with ERP systems (Oracle a plus) and project tracking tools (i.e., Jira)
