Job description

Company Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work—we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you'd be doing in this role

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Architecting and implementing Timeline 2.0 from scratch to support complex video projects for millions of users
• Delivering performant, intuitive editing experiences—optimising rendering, state management, and UI responsiveness
• Collaborating with design and product to solve challenging UX problems with elegant technical solutions
• Driving architectural decisions in undo/redo systems, real-time collaboration, and extensibility
• Leveraging cutting-edge tech including TypeScript, WebGL, WebGPU, Web Assembly, and web workers
• Building seamless integrations with playback, export, and editing features across Canva’s video ecosystem
• Mentoring fellow engineers and sharing best practices for building creative tooling interfaces

You're probably a match if

• You love solving complex technical problems that simplify user experience
• You have strong frontend engineering skills—TypeScript, React, MobX—and a deep understanding of performance optimization
• You're experienced with scalable UI state management, real-time collaboration, and responsive design for creative tools
• You’re excited about building creative interfaces and ideally have experience with video, media or timeline-based products
• You’re collaborative, pragmatic and care deeply about creating magical user experiences
• You have hands-on experience using AI in coding / programming to drive greater impact

About the team

The Video Editor team is shaping how millions of creators bring their video ideas to life. We're rebuilding our timeline editor from the ground up to create a new social media flow—intuitive, powerful and built for storytelling. We’re tackling unique technical challenges to make advanced video editing as simple and delightful as the rest of Canva.

What's in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard—but you'll experience plenty of magic, connection, and fun at Canva too.

Here’s a taste of what’s on offer:
• Equity packages—we want our success to be yours too
• Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents and carers
• Annual Vibe & Thrive allowance for wellbeing, connection, and productivity
• Flexible leave options so you can recharge and be a force for good
