Data Service Engineer (Multi-Platform - ETL/SQL/Reporting) - 100% REMOTE

We are seeking a seasoned Data Services Engineer with expertise in multi-platform data environments to design, develop, and maintain enterprise-class data services. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in reporting, ETL processes, and analytics, with a deep understanding of both mainframe and distributed systems. This role requires collaboration with architects, developers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality data solutions primarily in the Payments, Banking, and Finance domains.

• Collaborate closely with data and solution architects to deliver enterprise-class data services.
• Design, develop, and implement custom reporting and analytics dashboards.
• Develop, test, maintain, and support ETL processes ensuring data integrity and performance.
• Design, draft, develop, and test reporting workflows and reports.
• Document and maintain data sourcing workflows, including data mapping and data dictionary management.
• Define data matrices, data dictionaries, and data structures across multiple platforms such as SQL Server and Azure SQL Server Managed Instance.
• Lead technical design, prototyping, data development, support, and problem remediation efforts.
• Apply knowledge of data design patterns and enterprise architecture in the Payments Industry (banking, credit unions, bill pay, EFT, etc.).
• Analyze and optimize performance at the Data Access Layer (DAL) for high-volume environments.
• Provide accurate estimates for tasks, team efforts, budgets, and overall level of effort (LOE) for data-related projects.
• Create comprehensive technical documentation using flowcharts, class diagrams, sequence diagrams, activity diagrams, data flow diagrams, database schemas, wireframes, and component descriptions.

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering.
• 6+ years of experience with reporting and analytics toolsets.
• 6+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent knowledge.
• 6+ years of proficiency in SQL and relational database systems.
• Strong understanding of various data sets, file formats (e.g., VSAM, flat files), and data types (EBCDIC, ASCII) including data transformation techniques.

• 6+ years of experience managing mainframe and distributed data management and reporting platforms.
• 2+ years working with Snowflake and Data Lake methodologies.
• Expertise in report authoring, ETL, and reporting workflows/documentation, preferably on mainframe and distributed platforms.
• Experience in Banking, Finance, EFT, and/or Payment Card domains.
• Exposure to supporting programmers using languages such as C# and COBOL.
• Skilled in utilizing visualization and workflow tools to design and communicate data management requirements.
• Strong technical communication skills.
• Knowledge of ISO-8583 messaging standard highly preferred.
• Experience in data modeling and development of data warehouses and data marts.
• Familiarity with SQL Server columnstore indexes and always encrypted columns.
• Experience with SQL Report Server, Power BI, and/or Mainframe DB2.
• Knowledge of Azure DevOps and Git source control.
• Familiarity with DevOps, Agile, and Test-Driven Development methodologies.
• Understanding of PCI DSS compliance, data handling standards, and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) management.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, business analysts, project managers, solution architects, and DBAs.
