University of the Cumberlands is seeking a core faculty member to join the experienced faculty in the hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. This position is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track assignment, with rank determined by the candidate’s experience. The core faculty member will provide engaging, clinically focused, and evidence-based learning opportunities for students through online (asynchronous and synchronous) and in-person instructional delivery methods. Core faculty members will also contribute to curriculum development, student advisement, recruitment, and retention. Faculty will provide service at the departmental/school, college, university, and community level, for an institution grounded in shared faculty governance and professional service activities. The faculty are scholars, being involved in building and integrating knowledge for the advancement of the profession and the University.

Preferred Candidate
The preferred candidate will have contemporary expertise to perform primary teaching responsibilities in the neurologic and pediatric coursework across the curriculum. Secondary teaching responsibilities will be determined based on best fit with the candidate’s areas of interest, expertise, and program needs, with preference for candidates who also have experience teaching, or relevant clinical background, in prosthetics and orthotics, and/or evidence-informed practice coursework.

The format of the DPT program allows the faculty member to live remote from campus. However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in the Williamsburg, KY area for designated time periods each semester according to designated teaching responsibilities and required program events.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy program is a six-semester hybrid program, emphasizing small class sizes, individualized student support, and innovative online and in-person educational technologies and approaches that facilitate a student-centered community of learning. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program was granted initial accreditation by CAPTE in 2024.

Qualifications

Education

  • Academic Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution with demonstrated clinical expertise and teaching experience (Ph.D., EdD, DSc or equivalent); or
  • Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy Degree (DPT) with demonstrated clinical expertise, teaching experience, and current clinical specialist certification through ABPTS.

Licensure
 Must possess a current unencumbered license to practice physical therapy in Kentucky or be eligible to secure license or compact privilege to practice physical therapy in Kentucky within 90 days of employment start.

Other

  • Interest in and ability to use online instructional technologies;
  • Ability to travel for face-to-face teaching in on-campus lab immersions and required campus events;
  • Possess strong organizational, communication, decision-making, teamwork, interpersonal, technological, and personal leadership skills.
