TITLE: Systems Engineer
DEPARTMENT: TS Variable Operations
REPORTING TO: Boris Canville
OFFICE LOCATION: New York City

Role Overview:

Provide installation services and technical support for IPC’s advanced server/network based telecommunications products in a fast paced demanding environment servicing the financial community. This individual will have:

  • experience in the installation and troubleshooting of server & networking technologies (Cisco, etc)
  • knowledge of telecommunications (a must)
  • knowledge of databases and operating systems (beneficial)
  • PBX experience (beneficial)
  • the ability to work nights and weekends (flexible work schedule is a requirement)

 

How You Will Make an Impact:

The team is responsible for all installation, service, and Move-Add-Change activities in NY/NJ/CT for the Unigy product line and other server-based products. They ensure the delivery of first-class service to all IPC customers and manage overall operational effectiveness. The team is customer-focused and proactively manages and controls service operational matters using methods, practices, and procedures within agreed budgets and timescales. The New York client base is the largest in number of clients and size at IPC.

 

Essential Skills and Experience to be Successful in this Role:

  • Should have a strong understanding of VoIP and network topologies
  • Wireshark and Cisco packet capture tools, bandwidth testing tools, and SNMP
  • Strong understanding of basic network topologies
  • Excellent verbal communication, technical writing/drawing and organizational skills
  • Domains / Workgroups, and User accounts and Services
  • DHCP / DNS / NTP
  • Basic understanding of telephony- T-1, DS3, DSO, ARD’s, 4 wire-Hoot’s, Channel Banks, Understand VOIP technology- QOS (Quality of Service) Major components of the VoIP network- Voice packetization- Voice quality- Bandwidth-Traffic convergence issues- VoIP standardization and protocol-Network assessment
  • In depth understanding of cabling, building risers, fiber optics, patch panels, Cat 6, 12 Pair, plus color codes
  • Understanding of networking concepts, including WAN / LAN/ ATM technology.
  • Linux, SQL, and virtualization expertise are preferable

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

Any IT Certifications in the following areas is beneficial:

  • Operating Systems (Microsoft, Linux)
  • Servers (Server+, etc)
  • Networking (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, etc)
  • Linux (Red Hat…)
  • Virtualization (ESXI, KVM…)
  • Databases (My SQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL)
  • PBX knowledge a plus (Avaya, Nortel, Cisco Call Manager, etc.)
  • 2 year college degree; BS/BA from an accredited university preferred. Or equivalent work experience (5+ years as an engineer in the IT industry)
