General Summary:

As the Director of Structured Product Marketing you are tasked with driving commercial growth across major North American electricity markets, including WECC, CAISO, ERCOT, SPP, AESO, and other ISOs like PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE. This role carries a significant responsibility for originating, structuring, and securing high-value business opportunities across the wholesale and retail energy space. You are tasked with navigating complex regulatory landscapes, designing innovative deal structures, and fostering strategic partnerships to advance the company’s market presence and expanding its portfolio. This role is a cornerstone of the company’s growth strategy, directly shaping revenue streams, market positioning, and portfolio expansion across North American energy markets, driving EKI’s long term profitability and resilience. 

Essential Duties:

  • Portfolio Expansion: Leads the identification, pursuit, and capture of new commercial opportunities across U.S. electricity markets, targeting utilities, cooperatives, municipalities, corporate off-takers, and industrial clients to expand the company’s commercial presence and footprint across diverse U.S. markets, focusing on long term value in alignment with company’s long-term goals. 
  • Advanced Deal Structuring: Designs and negotiates sophisticated energy contracts, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), virtual PPAs, tolling agreements, renewable energy credit (REC) contracts, capacity agreements, and structured hedges. Develops tailored financial and risk-mitigation structures to optimize deal value while addressing counterparty needs and market conditions.  Create and promote flexible pricing models for structured energy and capacity products, ensuring competitiveness and alignment with market and customer demands.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivates and maintains strategic relationships with key industry players, including utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), regulatory authorities, trade associations, and commercial customers, to enhance market access and influence. 
  • Market Intelligence: Analyzes trends, pricing dynamics, and competitive landscapes across North American energy markets. Provides actionable insights on supply-demand balances, grid constraints, renewable integration, and policy shifts to inform origination and structuring strategies. 
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborates with project development, finance, legal, risk management, and operations teams to ensure seamless alignment of origination activities with project execution, financial modeling, and operational feasibility. Acts as a bridge between commercial and technical teams to deliver integrated solutions. 
  • Risk Management: Assesses and mitigates commercial and regulatory risks associated with origination and deal structuring, including counterparty credit, market volatility, basis risk, and compliance obligations. Develops risk-hedging strategies within contract frameworks to protect company interests. 
  • Performance Reporting: Provides detailed updates to senior leadership on origination pipelines, deal progress, regulatory developments, and market opportunities. Contributes market and deal-structuring insights to corporate strategy and budgeting processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Engineering, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance is required. Preference is given to candidates with advanced study in such fields. 
  • 10+ years of experience in energy origination, business development, power marketing, or structured finance, with a proven track record in multiple U.S. electricity markets (e.g., WECC, PJM, ERCOT, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, SPP, CAISO). 
  • Extensive expertise in structuring and closing complex energy contracts, including PPAs, REC agreements, and capacity market transactions, with a focus on innovative financial and risk-mitigation structures. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. energy market regulations, including FERC, NERC, state public utility commissions, and regional market operator rules, as well as renewable energy policies (e.g., RPS, clean energy standards). 
  • Established network of industry contacts across utilities, developers, off-takers, and regulatory bodies in major U.S. electricity markets. 
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate market data, financial models, pricing structures, and regulatory impacts, with experience in quantitative risk assessment. 
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage regulatory compliance processes and advocate effectively in policy discussions.

  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and reporting systems specific to U.S. energy markets.

Work Conditions

This is a fully remote position, offering you the flexibility to work from your location within the United States. While enjoying the benefits of remote work, this role requires your core working hours to align with Pacific Standard Time (PST) to ensure seamless collaboration with our trading and marketing teams. Our normal working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. PST, Monday through Friday. Please note that this role will require frequent (up to 50%) travel for important meetings, industry conferences, or training sessions. You should also be prepared for the possibility of extended working hours, including potential weekend and holiday work, as the demands of the market and specific projects may necessitate.

Additionally, reliable high-speed internet access is essential for success in this remote environment. All employees are required to successfully complete a background check as part of the onboarding process.
