The Doctors Company is currently seeking a Policy Specialist to join our Underwriting Team. This is a remote opportunity or may report to one of our offices depending on the final candidate’s location from the company's offices.
Position Mission
Coordinates the development and maintenance of filed products, form/document templates, guidelines and procedures, and other information needed to support the Underwriting Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reviewing draft policy language with the legal department for approval, coordinating guideline and form review, system user acceptance testing for new products, enhancements, and fixes, handling Underwriting department inquiries related to policy forms, guidelines, and other topics. Maintains Underwriting department internal website. May process ad hoc reporting requests for management.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
INS, RPLU or CPCU designation, or progress in obtaining such as designation, is preferred.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of set variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Excellent phone and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize incoming requests while maintaining daily work assignments.
Strong customer service and team orientation and the ability to work with diverse personalities.
Ability to accurately type 25 WPM.
Ability to follow directions and department procedures with a high degree of detail.
Proficiency and aptitude in use of computer information systems with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
Ability to travel and adapt to a flexible work schedule.
Responsibilities
Underwriting Policy/Procedure Development and Management
Collaborates with Policy Development and Quality Assurance Manager to solicit input on underwriting policies, guidelines and procedures and their implementation to meet TDC underwriting goals.
Maintains guidelines, forms, documents, and letters in secure network space for access by Company personnel; provides research and explanation for use of these documents.
Assists with the creation of policy forms in collaboration with legal counsel.
Regulatory Compliance
Regularly collaborates with TDC Regulatory Compliance with TDC's filings.
Technical Consultation
Provides guidance to regional underwriting managers on individual/team adherence to underwriting standards.
Provides technical input on underwriting training programs.
Performance of competitive form review and analysis.
Systems Knowledge
Maintains competence and builds knowledge of all applicable company systems.
Actively participates in applicable training programs.
Leads training of other policy analysts as requested by their manager.
Projects and Reports
Generates requested underwriting reports or create ad hoc reports on demand.
Conducts testing related to system enhancements.
Other Duties To Be Assigned
Works on various projects and assignments made by management.
Participates actively and provides updates to leadership on assigned projects within given deadlines.
Salary Range: $51,395 - $67,456
