The successful candidate will assist with the preparation and review of excise tax returns, VAT and customs compliance, and related reconciliations, with a particular emphasis on UK regulations. This is a fixed contract for two years that involves supporting interactions with tax authorities and providing internal advisory services. This opportunity enables the development of cross-border tax expertise in a fast-paced, multinational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the preparation and review of excise tax returns, with a specialized focus on the UK, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.

  • Perform excise tax reconciliations by reviewing transactional data, verifying tax calculations, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting and payment in compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in managing VAT and customs compliance processes for multiple legal entities within the EMEA region, with a deep understanding of UK requirements.

  • Help maintain and improve indirect tax and customs control processes, identifying areas for efficiency or risk mitigation, especially concerning UK regulations.

  • Liaise with external service providers and tax and customs authorities, specifically in the UK, to ensure compliance and resolve issues promptly.

  • Stay informed about developments in EMEA tax and customs legislation, with a primary focus on the UK, and share insights with relevant stakeholders.

  • Review Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) invoices to ensure compliance with VAT recovery and relief requirements, particularly within the UK context.

  • Monitor and ensure timely VAT payments and receipts, troubleshooting discrepancies or delays, particularly for UK transactions.

  • Perform VAT reconciliations between VAT ledgers, VAT reports, and submitted VAT returns, with a specific focus on UK reporting standards.

  • Support external indirect tax audits across the EU region, with a strong understanding of UK audit procedures, by gathering documentation and liaising with auditors.

  • Provide ad hoc support to the broader VAT and Indirect Tax team as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Taxation, or a related field, or a professional qualification such as ATT (Association of Tax Technicians), CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser), or similar, or qualified by experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in EMEA Excise tax, with significant experience in UK tax regulations, preferably in a multinational or shared services environment.

  • Strong foundational knowledge of excise tax, VAT, and customs regulations, with a specialized understanding of UK legislation.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly in the context of UK tax requirements.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and tax software tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar), with experience in UK-specific systems if applicable.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and geographies, especially in a UK business context.

  • Proactive, organized, and capable of managing multiple deadlines, with a focus on UK tax compliance timelines.
