Junior Accountant - Remote (WFH)

Position Summary:

The Cognitive Project Junior Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting department by managing daily accounting tasks which include processing accounts payable and payroll and preparing financial statements and reporting.  The ideal candidate will be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and attention to detail. This highly visible position requires regular interaction with internal and external customers as well as interactions with senior-level staff members.
  
Main Responsibilities:

• Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded
• Manages accounts receivable and issue invoices
• Processes accounts payable and perform reconciliations
• Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines
• Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned
• Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
• Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
• Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings
• Assist with other accounting projects
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business
• 2 years of experience relating to accounting in the Government / Defense industry
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Detail-oriented and able to prioritize work and multitask effectively.
• Ability to work well in both a team setting and independently.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of management both orally and in written form.
• Intermediate MS Excel skills with the ability to design complex models.
• Working knowledge of project accounting and GAAP principles.
• Experience with Unanet.
