The Opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic and mission-aligned
Managing Director of Business Development to lead fundraising and client acquisition at ImpactAssets Capital Partners. This newly created role will be responsible for building out the business development function for IA Capital, including developing a multi-year business development and hiring plan. This role will be instrumental in raising capital for our inaugural fund as well as expanding our client base of large family offices, foundations, and corporate partners. The ideal candidate brings a strong track record in institutional fundraising and a deep commitment to mobilizing capital for positive impact.
The position is
full time and reports to the Deputy Chief Investment Officer. Our team offers a flexible work environment, operating primarily in a
remote environment, but coming together periodically throughout the year for in person meetings and offsites so
periodic travel (25-35%) is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead fundraising efforts for the firm’s inaugural impact fund and subsequent funds, from strategy through close, including prospect identification, pipeline development, and relationship management.
- Drive client acquisition for the RIA business, focusing on large family offices, foundations, and corporate clients aligned with impact investing.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy that integrates fund capital raising and advisory client growth.
- Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including wealth advisors, consultants, gatekeepers, and mission-aligned networks.
- Lead and manage the RFP process, including evaluating opportunities, drafting responses, coordinating cross-functional input, and making strategic decisions on which RFPs to pursue based on fit, capacity, and likelihood of success.
- Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and in one-on-one meetings with prospective investors and clients.
- Collaborate closely with the CEO / CIO, Investment Research, Investment Strategy and other teams to ensure messaging, materials, and outreach are aligned and effective.
- Maintain a detailed pipeline and regularly report on fundraising and client acquisition progress to leadership.
- Travel approximately 25–50% for in-person meetings, conferences, and fundraising activities.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 12+ years of experience in business development, fundraising, or client-facing roles within investment management, private funds, or wealth advisory.
- Proven track record of raising capital from institutional and private investors, such as family offices, foundations, endowments, and/or corporates.
- Strong understanding of the RIA landscape, including investment advisory services, client relationship dynamics, and regulatory context.
- Familiarity with impact investing and/or values-aligned investment strategies across asset classes; ability to communicate impact value propositions credibly and compellingly.
- Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage senior-level stakeholders and adapt messaging across audiences.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to design and execute business development plans aligned with firm goals.
- Self-starter comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial, mission-driven environment with evolving structures and processes.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information and investor relationships.
- Proficiency in CRM systems, pipeline reporting, and investor communications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Flexibility and willingness to do what it takes in a team environment
- Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize competing demands
- Proficiency with cloud-based collaboration tools Box and Asana preferred
- Experience working in a virtual working environment preferred
