Job Title: Splicer Tester

Manassas, VA 


Job Summary:

A Splicer Tester is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and verifying the integrity of fiber optic and copper cable splices in telecommunications networks. This role ensures that all splicing work meets performance standards and supports uninterrupted data transmission.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), power meter, and light source testing on fiber optic cables.
  • Verify the quality and accuracy of splices performed by splicing technicians.
  • Identify and troubleshoot faults or signal losses in fiber and copper networks.
  • Document test results and maintain detailed records for quality assurance and compliance.
  • Collaborate with splicing crews to ensure proper installation and repair of cable systems.
  • Interpret network diagrams, splice schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Perform post-installation inspections and certify completed work.
  • Ensure all testing procedures comply with industry standards and safety regulations.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with fiber optic testing tools (e.g., OTDR, power meters, visual fault locators).
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic and copper cable systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and splicing plans.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting and collaboration.

 Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical certification in fiber optics or telecommunications preferred.
  • 2–4 years of experience in cable splicing or network testing roles.

 Work Environment:

  • Field-based work in various environments, including outdoor and confined spaces.
  • May involve travel to multiple job sites and working during off-hours or weekends.
