Job Summary:


The Transportation Analyst is responsible for evaluating transportation network performance through key metrics such as cost, service, and carrier utilization. This role collaborates with internal teams and external logistics partners to drive process improvements, enhance reporting capabilities, and support strategic initiatives like freight procurement, cost reduction, and route optimization. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with logistics expertise to deliver data-driven insights that improve efficiency and reduce transportation spend.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Analyze transportation network performance using KPIs such as on-time delivery, cost per shipment, carrier utilization, and exception rates.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (supply chain, distribution, customer service) and external partners (carriers, 3PLs) to identify and implement process improvements.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to drive visibility into carrier performance, spend trends, and service gaps.

  • Support annual freight procurement activities, including RFP analysis, rate benchmarking, and carrier selection recommendations.

  • Provide data-driven insights and scenario modeling to support strategic transportation initiatives (mode shift, route optimization, cost reduction).

  • Partner with IT or BI teams to enhance transportation data integration and reporting capabilities.

  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes (e.g., DOT, FMCSA), and market dynamics impacting domestic transportation.

  • Conduct root cause analysis of service failures and work with carriers to develop corrective action plans.

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for transportation costs.

Qualifying Expereince:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.

  • 4+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain analytics, with a focus on US ground transportation (parcel, LTL, truckload).

  • Strong analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Excel, SQL, and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).

  • Experience with TMS platforms (e.g., Oracle, SAP TM, Manhattan, MercuryGate) is highly desirable.

  • Solid understanding of carrier operations, freight rate structures, and transportation regulations.

  • Ability to synthesize large data sets into clear, actionable insights.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present findings to cross-functional teams and leadership.

  • Self-starter with strong project management and problem-solving capabilities.
