Description

The company also excels in many other types of reinforced plastics including interior sandwich panels for creating structures such as aircraft galleys and bulkheads, honeycomb core and related products.

 

The Gill Corporation is seeking a Hazardous Material Handler responsible for the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous substances, including chemicals, flammable liquids, toxic materials, corrosives, and biohazards. In addition to hazardous material management, this role will also support the routine maintenance and general upkeep of plant and office facilities to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.

 

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager they will perform but not be limited to the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Hazmat duties – 90% of time

  • Transport hazardous materials safely within the facility using forklifts and other equipment.
  • Conduct daily inspections of 90-day accumulation areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the satellite accumulation areas.
  • Move all the hazardous materials from satellite accumulation areas to 90-day accumulation areas.
  • Label and store chemicals according to OSHA and DTSC guidelines.
  • Respond to spills and emergencies using appropriate safety protocols and PPE.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and documentation for hazardous substances.
  • Coordinate hazardous waste disposal in compliance with DTSC and local regulations.
  • Load up the truck during hazardous waste disposal pickups and be available to help during lab-packs.
  • Primary person to sign DTSC manifests for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Audit spill kits throughout the facility and be responsible to replenish them.
  • Participate in safety training relating to hazardous materials and ensure all safety standards are upheld.

Maintenance Duties – 10% of time

  • Clean offices and bathrooms.  Wax floors and shampoo carpets.
  • Repair toilets, urinals, faucets, flush valves and drinking fountains. 
  • Replace light bulbs and ballasts
  • Paint equipment, bathrooms and building walls.
  • Move furniture as needed.
  • Pick up and deliver parts for maintenance and production.
  • Perform basic gardening.
  • Perform drywall and basic carpentry repairs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalency
  • Up to 2 years of experience in material handling or warehouse operations.
  • Must have English reading and verbal communication skills sufficient to read, understand and communicate the company operating procedures and policies.
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Forklift experience is preferred.
  • Valid California Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
