SUMMARY: 
The Pursuit Strategist is a key member of the Marketing and Business Development team responsible for driving growth by delivering actionable client intelligence, competitive positioning, and strategic pursuit planning. Unlike traditional proposal management roles, this position is focused on upstream strategy – identifying opportunities, analyzing markets, and supporting the firm’s positioning for future work. The Pursuit Strategist collaborates closely with the Sales Enablement Specialist, who owns the proposal process, and provides strategic support throughout the pursuit lifecycle as needed.
 
This role is ideal for a highly analytical, forward-thinking professional who is passionate about leveraging data, insights, and strategy to increase win probability in a competitive construction management environment.
 
This position has the flexibility to be 100% remote, with no daily on-site presence required. However, the Pursuit Strategist is expected to be available to travel to CSM Group’s corporate headquarters at least once per quarter for strategic planning, team collaboration, or training purposes. Additional travel may be required for special projects or key client engagements.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:    
    • Market & Client Intelligence 
      • Research and analyze target markets, prospective clients, and industry trends to inform pursuit decisions.
      • Track capital improvement plans, funding announcements, project pipelines, and long-term market opportunities.
      • Maintain profiles and intelligence briefs for key clients, competitors, and partners.
    • Strategy Development 
      • Facilitate Go/No-Go assessments with Pursuit and Business Unit leads by presenting relevant intelligence and strategic fit.
      • Support the development of win strategies, key messaging, and differentiators based on client needs and competitive context.
      • Partner with Pursuit, Business Unit, and marketing leads to shape client engagement strategies pre-RFP.
    • Support to Sales Enablement & Proposal Teams 
      • Provide strategic input on content development, positioning, and themes for priority proposals.
      • Develop client-specific strategy briefs to guide the Sales Enablement Specialist in tailoring proposals and presentations.
      • Assist in interview preparation by delivering key insights and helping refine win themes and client messaging.
    • Thought Leadership & Strategic Initiatives 
      • Collaborate on the development of tools, templates, and processes to enhance strategic pursuit planning.
      • Participate in internal strategy sessions, debriefs, and knowledge sharing initiatives to improve overall business development and sales effectiveness.
      • Monitor and evaluate success metrics for strategic pursuits, including win/loss trends and market share.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, construction management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in business development or sales strategy, market research, or client intelligence – preferably in the A/E/C industry.
  • Experience supporting complex, multi-stakeholder pursuits is highly valued.
  • Strong research and analytical skills; able to translate market data into strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with strong business writing and storytelling skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence without direct authority.
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce), market research tools, and MS Office Suite.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with shifting priorities.

This role is primarily sedentary in nature and performed in an office or remote work environment. This position is not typically exposed to active construction job sites; however, occasional visits to project sites or client offices may occur. When visiting construction sites, appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required.
 
The noise level in the standard work environment is generally quiet to moderate. Work hours are primarily during standard business hours, with occasional requirements for extended hours to meet deadlines or support time-sensitive strategic pursuits.
