Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, has an immediate need for a Full-time Instructional Lab Coordinator in the Science, Engineering & Technology Department. The work schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (hours may vary depending on the departmental need). This is a Bargaining Non-exempt, Grade 27 position. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Duties Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Organize and set up equipment, instruments and tools for use by students and faculty in Physics, Engineering & Geosciences (Physical Science, Geology and Astronomy) labs.
  • Assist in the supply, maintenance and operation of the Science, Engineering & Technology Department's Innovation Center (students can use 3D printers, CNC machine, 3D scanner, etc.) and supervise student workers providing support in that space.
  • Assemble and check equipment for proper operation and adjust equipment as necessary. Perform general maintenance and repairs and/or coordinate with outside contracted services. Troubleshoot and solve problems with instrumentation in the teaching lab.
  • Monitor safety of students in the teaching lab and assure adherence to all rules and regulations set forth by OSHA and Montgomery College.
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise student workers; monitor and provide training on safe work practices and procedures. Assist with training of students, staff and faculty on proper use of lab equipment and instruments.
  • Organize and prepare laboratory schedules and times for students to use the Engineering shop.
  • Ensure and maintain safe, clean and orderly teaching laboratories and associated support areas.
  • Adhere to all applicable OSHA and Montgomery College guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensure that supplies, hand tools, power tools and equipment are properly stored and secured and control appropriate access to laboratory and surrounding support areas.
  • Prepare requisitions and place orders to maintain an inventory of chemicals (for Physical Science labs), equipment, software, materials and supplies.
  • Work with the Office of Information Technology to install and test software and hardware.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or the natural sciences (Physics, Astronomy, Earth Science, Chemistry or Biology). The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with instructional technology, equipment and educational materials employed in the instructional laboratory.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Licenses And Certifications

OSHA training or knowledge of OSHA laboratory standards is desired.

Hiring Range: $30.47 to $39.60/hourly. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $48.74/hourly
