About the Role
The Athletic is looking for a passionate, analytical individual with an eye for great content to join our team as an Associate Programming Editor. In this role, you’ll be responsible for curation, packaging and distribution of original content across various channels including, but not limited to, The Athletic web home page, app feeds, push alerts, newsletters and The New York Times. The Associate Programming Editor will be an expert on content produced by our staff of 400+ national and local journalists, be an excellent copy writer, have a strong editorial sense and be expected to report on key audience metrics.
This is a remote-based position in the United States or Canada.
This is a shift based role that will be primarily evenings and weekends.
ResponsibilitiesExecute content programming and distribution strategy, including curation and distribution of articles, podcasts, and video for multiple high-impact verticals.Identify highly engaging content from across our newsroom to broaden The Athletic’s reach to subscriber and non-subscriber audiences.Serve as the curation expert across the The Athletic home page in real-time.Write and send daily push alert notifications for local and national stories. Curate and pitch stories for various New York Times surfaces.Monitor real-time analytics to inform curation and homepage strategy.Develop copy and visual assets to create content packages that advance The Athletic’s voice and tone across all channels.Communicate with editors from across the newsroom to provide meaningful feedback on content performance and programming.Collaborate with social, marketing, design and our newsroom to align voice across all platforms.Requirements1-3 years experience in journalism/media, content programming, digital marketing, or similar Experience writing headlines and home page packagingData-driven and analytical; ability to think critically around metricsInterest and knowledge across a range of different sports.Strong news judgment with the ability to identify the biggest stories of the day and how they relate to the larger news cycleStrong communicator and can disseminate information clearly and concisely to various stakeholder groupsSupreme attention to detail and highly organized under deadlines.An ability to work flexible hours. This role will be primarily evenings (5p-1a or 6p-2a ET) and weekends. This is a remote-based position in the United States or Canada.This is a shift based role that will be primarily evenings and weekends.The annual base salary range for this role is $67,000.00 - $70,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
