We’re looking for an Associate Assignment Editor who’s responsible for staying on top of the stories that matter to Canadian sports fans and our evergrowing audience, who is as good at long range planning as they are reacting to breaking news, and who ensures our coverage is best in class.
Please note: As Sportsnet is a continuous operation, this position regularly requires evening and weekend work.
What you will do:
- Flag sound and news from around the sports world to ensure all our platforms are aware and able to request proper coverage.
- Shotlist sound while at the same time highlighting and alerting departments to important sound bites and content
- Remote coordinate live hitstalkbacks via the control room with reporters and analysts in the field
- Work with our Assignment Editors and EditorialProduction management to ensure comprehensive coverage of all sports news and content
- Work with Sportsnet’s content teams to ensure that our news coverage is optimal
- Continually evaluate our ongoing coverage to make adjustments
- Work with reporters, camera operators and the assignment team to leverage our resources into the best coverage possible
- Collaborate with Sportsnet’s senior editorial team to innovate, developing new forms of content and the workflows needed to produce that content
- Communicate Sportsnet’s coverage plans to all relevant parties, platforms and content leads
- Build strong and collaborative relationships within and outside Sportsnet

- Ability to “see around corners” by anticipating what will develop into big stories and allocating resources accordingly
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Excellent time management skills in a deadlinedriven environment
