The Senior Risk and Underwriting Specialist is a key member of the Payment Operations Team. They will be responsible for assisting with the collaboration of representing our department with cross functional  aspects and responsibilities to ensure that Entrata is compliant with all rules and regulations. They must be able to multi-task and shift responsibilities as special projects and assistance is needed. They can also  perform all job functions and responsibilities of the Risk and Underwriting Specialist.

For this role, we are only hiring in Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Texas, North Carolina, Florida.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Create and maintain the department’s underwriting’s policy to ensure compliance with FinCEN guidelines and processing partner’s requirements.
  • Underwrite new clients and perform annual underwriting reviews on existing clients.
  • Create and maintain client-facing underwriting materials (underwriting guide, merchant change request forms)
  • Train team members in all underwriting aspects: common business structures and entity types, interpreting financial statements, reading business tax returns, interpreting internal screening tools. 
  • Resolve escalated underwriting issues by reviewing submitted documentation, organizing client calls and collaborating with our legal department. 
  • Design and prepare data-driven financial reports to approve clients for accelerated settlements and payment limit amount increases. 
  • Oversee the creation, updates, and internal auditing of merchant accounts and merchant fee schedules for Entrata’s full client portfolio. 
  • Oversee the collection of delinquent merchant fees. 
  • Lead the annual 1099K (income reporting) filing process to the IRS for all contracted properties. 
  • Resolve tax information discrepancies for all clients and sub-merchants. 
  • Lead, perform or assist with internal audits and compliance audits from processing partners
  • Assist with daily confirmation of bank settlement files.
  • Create and periodically review Standards Operating Procedures for all functions of the team
  • Resolve merchant and payment related questions from internal and external clients. 
  • Research and resolve escalated issues at any level of the payment processing chain: end user, clients, sub-merchants, admin system and processing partners.
  • Ensure the team’s compliance with all SLA times for all incoming requests.
  • Learn Entrata’s database system and design SQL queries to fulfill custom data retrieval requests from external and internal clients.
  • Design custom data reports to be used for risk and operations functions across the department.
  • Explore Entrata’s databases to find discrepancies and resolve data transfer issues. 
  • Identify automation opportunities and design automation solutions by creating macros/scripts using VisualBasic and google scripts.  
  • Act as a liaison between payment operations and all other departments involved with ResidentPay (product management, legal/contracts, finance, engineering and data analytics) to resolve current challenges and identify/capitalize on opportunities to advance the ResidentPay product.
  • Delegates, mentors, trains and motivates the team
  • Assists the VP of Payment Program Management in special assignments and projects such as  AML research, building learning materials/guides, collecting Key Indicators data, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and potential impacts to the company. 

  • Minimum Qualifications
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in Payments Industry  
  • Underwriting experience with an emphasis in Payment Processing (domestic and international preferred)
  • Understand the risk associated with payment processing
  • Strong attention to detail, and ability to make decisions
  • Solid understanding of credit reports, and a variety of financial documents such as tax returns 
  • Ability to write, follow and enforce standard operating procedures and policies
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent work ethic with the ability to manage time effectively 
  • Demonstrate great interpersonal skills
  • Maintain friendly and effective relationships with merchants and coworkers 
  • Willing to take on new roles, assignments and responsibilities as the department grows
  • Able to take direction and initiative with minimal supervision

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient knowledge of SQL 
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite 
  • ACAMS certification
