About The Role
As a Staff Data Scientist - Route Building, you’ll focus on Operations Research and general Data Science topics within the Last Mile delivery space. You’re responsible for defining, building, and operating sophisticated models to answer hard questions centered around improving our logistics network and user experiences. You’ll partner with product managers to understand high-value business problems, build systems that inform daily operations. You’ll work closely with software engineers to operationalize the models you build in the production systems that drive Veho.
Responsibilities Include
Lead projects on our Core Route Building Data Science team, driving projects from a data science methodology and implementation perspective
Develop and implement models to solve complex problems using Operations Research, statistics, and machine learning technologies
Lead our collaboration with functional areas (last mile, middle mile, ground operations, network planning) to develop and optimize our network across the board
Drive the understanding of our current processes via exploratory data analysis, surfacing high-impact project ideas.
Deep dive into current data science solutions to develop insights and provide recommendations
Implement improvement initiatives that impact metrics and streamline network operations
Communicate with technical and business-oriented audiences
What You Bring
Master or PhD in operations research, data science, (applied) mathematics or similar field, plus 5+ years developing and deploying optimization, predictive, and machine learning models
Strong knowledge of statistical modeling, ML and DS techniques to solve business problems
Strong practical knowledge of supply chain optimization and forecasting in the logistics or last mile delivery space, implementing large-scale solutions to drive business impact
Proven experience in leading cross-functional projects with Product, Ops, and Engineering partners.
Software development experience deploying Operations Research and Data Science solutions into production
Knowledge in operations research concepts such as mixed-integer programming (MIP), network optimization, and simulation.
Expert SQL and Python skills
Familiarity with the gig economy space (preferred)
