Brief Description 

The Director, Business Development is a key member of the Global Business Development team at UBC. This individual will be responsible for: 

  • Creating and sustaining business growth supporting Safety and Evidence Development in an assigned territory
  • Supporting business development activities to achieve new business goals from identification through contract award and execution
  • Establishing and maintaining high-touch relationships within prospect and customer accounts as well as within UBC

  • Integrated Evidence Generation Planning: Real-World Evidence Generation Consulting
  • Modernized Study Design & Execution: Decentralized & Hybrid Studies, Patient & Site Recruitment, Real World Data Access & Acquisition Technology, Real World Technology
  • Late Stage Research: Post-Marketing Requirement Studies (Phase IV), Retrospective Database Research, Observational Prospective Studies, Outcomes Research, Interventional Research (Phase II/III when decentralized)

 

Target Buyers: Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Real World Evidence, Real World Data Owners, Medical Operations, Outcomes Research, Health Economics

 

UBCs services within Safety & Risk Management:

 

  • Safety & Epidemiology Strategy: REMS Consulting & Design, Epidemiology Consulting
  • Risk Evaluation & Mitigation Strategy: REMS, EU Risk Management Plans
  • Pharmacovigilance: Full-Service Outsourcing (FSP), Safety Case Processing, Safety Writing / Aggregate Reporting, Signal Detection

 

Target Buyers: Drug Safety, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Operations

 

Specific job duties:

  • Prospect and identify new sales opportunities for UBC Evidence Development and Safety & Risk Management Segments
  • Active prospecting, networking and leading specific marketing campaigns against target clients.
  • Achieves annual RFP & sales quotas for the assigned territory 
  • Develops client call cadence to achieve objectives and ensure best practices in effective account management 
  • Establishes, nurtures, and grows client relationships at senior levels, both internally and externally 
  • Develops account plans, as appropriate, and partnerships with accounts and while maintaining current and accurate records in Salesforce.com 
  • Engages regularly with operations team members and maintains an understanding of capabilities, capacity, and relevant timelines 
  • Identifies and communicates the “win strategy” for individual opportunities
  • Understands and manages customer expectations 
  • Collaborates with company resources to achieve superior customer satisfaction, acting as the voice of the customer 
  • Organizes and manages key client meetings (i.e., bid defense, governance, check-ins, etc.) 
  • Evaluates proposals and budget quotations for assigned accounts, ensuring that proposals appropriately address the opportunity at hand, focusing on the customers needs 
  • Attends professional meetings, conferences, and tradeshows as needed
  • Aspires to exceed stated goals

 

Key metrics on an annual basis include:

  • RFPs and executed contracts
  • Weekly activities logged in Salesforce.com
  • A well-balanced portfolio of business (new & repeat) across UBC’s segments
  • Customer satisfaction and engagement

 

Travel: Approximately 25%

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, MBA, or other business/management training
  • Unquestionable personal and professional integrity
  • 4+ years prior biopharma services sales experience (or related)
  • Solution-oriented mindset and consultative style
  • Motivated self-starter with a proven ability to work successfully in a remote environment
  • Strong networking capabilities
  • Proven experience in supporting the development and delivery of compelling proposals
  • Demonstrated performance in large/medium/small biopharmaceutical accounts 
  • Strong understanding of the evidence market and patient experience
  • Strong account management acumen
  • Demonstrated knowledge of services/capabilities similar to those offered by UBC
  • Effective communication skills across multiple levels of an organization
  • Teamwork: ability to lead supporting teams through the entire sales process
  • Time Management: proven ability to manage projects against deadlines.
  • Business Acumen: experience developing relationships (internally & externally) and industry networking 
  • Problem-Solving Skills: ability to use proper judgment to plan and accomplish goals with limited supervision
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work simultaneously on multiple priorities
  • Experience in and appreciation of Salesforce.com as an organization’s “single source of truth” for customer-centric data
