We are currently looking for an electrical engineer for building improvement projects. Summary

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the design of building energy conservation projects with a focus on Electrical Infrastructure Systems. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Experience with electric building design: Design electrical systems upgrades and improvements to improve energy efficiency. Point to Point understanding of power distribution. Utility point of interconnection to the receptacle. 
  • Fundamentals of Power Distribution: Understanding of electrical theory, Kirchoff’s Law, Induction & Current Flow (Right Hand Rule), Basic Principles of Magnetism applied to Transformers and Motors as it applies to building design.
  • Perform Engineering Calculations & Analysis: Load Balancing, Available Short-Circuit Current, Arc Flash Potential, Voltage Drop and Selective Coordination in high performance buildings.
  • Alternative Energy Sources: Size combustion generators as it applies to high-performance buildings and electrical distribution systems, automatic transfer switches. Emphasis on integrating DER components including PV, BESS and EV charging. Exposure to energy conservation and LEED certification is a bonus.
  • Excellent Time Management Skills: Ability to work on multiple projects of varying complexities. Ability to work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions. Work under limited supervision.
  • Prioritize Workflow: Able to prioritize project workflow to meet deadlines with minimal supervision, completing projects on time. Paying special attention to quality, accuracy and effort against budget. 
  • Succeed as a Team: Enjoy working within design teams and meeting the project goals in a team-focused environment. Collaborate with other disciplines. Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes. Support company standards, work with project managers to exceed client expectations. 
  • Supports design team efforts to identify, recommend, and implement new technologies and systems to improve organizational processes and decision-making. Develop innovative solutions that reduce costs with no impact on quality, or long term reliability. 
  • Ability to research new concepts, technologies and apply integrate into our projects. 
  • Start to Finish: You will develop concepts from the ground up. Use information from site visit to develop concept. Produce construction drawings (CDs) using CAD software. Complete CDs and apply for permit. Work with construction teams and contractors to see our designs installed in the field. Review and approval of equipment submittals.
  • Articulate: The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills.   Comfortable presenting to clients, team members and internal leadership. 
  • Occasional Travel Required (~15%). Site visits to document the existing infrastructure. Provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and construction support as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher. Electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or building science from a fully accredited ABET program.  
  • Professional registration: EIT and/or PE License.
  • 4+ years of experience with commercial electrical design or light industrial.
  • Experience with low voltage systems 600V and lower, both AC and DC distributions. Includes 480/277V, 208/120V and 240/120V systems, single phase or three phase.
  • Understanding of basic electrical concepts. Ability to perform power calculations given current, amperage, kW, or power factor.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations including NFPA, NEC, Life Safety, IBC, and OSHA.
  • Technical understanding of Grounding.
  • Expansive product knowledge of manufacturers (Eaton, Schneider, ABB, Siemens, etc.).
  • Ability to size and specify distribution equipment: diesel generators, electrical switchgear & switchboards, panelboards, disconnect switches, conduit & conductors.
  • Assemble and compile Division26 specifications.  
  • Take a project from initial stages to 90% completion.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit is a plus.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Teams; working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu.
