About The Opportunity


SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA) is seeking an early career professional, Project Level Compliance Specialist - Mining to provide technical and project management support to the growing Mining Business Line - working directly with the Client Services Mining Director and the mining team. You should have experience of mining, energy, and infrastructure markets throughout the Western U.S. This position will report directly to our Sheridan, WY office. The position can be remote from Wyoming, Colorado, Montana or the Dakotas. Other remote locations may be considered.


This is a full-time, regular position with benefits.


Under this posting, we may hire any of the following titles:


  • Assistant Project Compliance Specialist - Typically up to three (3) years of relevant experience and expertise
  • Associate Project Compliance Specialist - Typically up to five (5) years of relevant experience and expertise
  • Project Compliance Specialist- Typically up to Seven (7) years of relevant experience and expertise

What You Will Accomplish


  • Provide technical support for all aspects of the mine life cycle permitting from exploration, environmental baseline studies, to project development, operation and closure.
  • Support mining project managers with tasks including budget management, subcontractor invoicing and management, invoice review, contract management.
  • Undertake field work as required and directed by Project Manager.
  • Provide support for mine permit preparation, compliance and maintenance.
  • Manage projects and contribute to resource reports/deliverables of key mining project deliverables.
  • Takes responsibility for team safety, developing safety plans (when applicable), and anticipating potential safety hazards



Experience and qualifications for success


Required


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, or related technical field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in mining, specializing in permitting and environmental compliance across all phases of mine development, planning, and regulatory approvals
  • Availability to travel throughout the U.S and participate in field work on mine sites. Anticipated travel time up to 40%. More travel may be required depending on project needs.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS Office, Excel, GIS and CADD.
  • Deliver projects within a management framework that enables the practice to thrive with respect to quality, safety, cost, administrative support, and policy compliance.
  • Flexible to work outside normal business hours as required; may include weekend and night-time work


Preferred Or Helpful


  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in mining, specializing in permitting and environmental compliance across all phases of mine development, planning, and regulatory approvals
  • Experience in project or task management very helpful
  • MSHA certification is a plus.

An employee in this Wyoming-based position can expect the following rates:

  • Assistant Project Compliance Specialist - $30.16/hr. - 37.96/hr.
  • Associate Project Compliance Specialist-$33.28/hr.- 42.64/hr.
  • Project Compliance Specialist - $77,875.00/yr. - $99,507.00/yr.


Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
