Job Overview

Financial management is crucial to the performance and success of any company. The roles and responsibilities of the Coursera Finance team include accounting, financial reporting, analysis, planning, budgeting, and compliance. Problem solvers at heart, this team works to fuel Coursera’s growth by developing creative solutions in response to accounting and finance challenges.

Coursera is seeking a highly motivated professional with strong technical accounting experience, who is highly inquisitive, has great interpersonal skills, and the ability to jump in and immediately make a positive impact in a dynamic environment. You will not only oversee month-end close, own the general ledger, review certain key account reconciliations and technical accounting, but also inspire and motivate stakeholders to embrace the changes that are required to move Coursera's business forward and support our complexity at scale.


Responsibilities

  • Own the global monthly closing process, including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, flux analysis, controls and the preparation of the consolidated financial statements, ensuring their integrity, accuracy, and timeliness in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Address technical accounting matters, including; developing, maintaining and enforcing accounting policies, writing position memos and procedures in accordance with US GAAP and other authoritative literature.
  • Serve as the project manager for the financial reporting process and incorporate process improvements where necessary.
  • Supervise a high-performing accounting team, providing coaching and support to team members to facilitate their professional growth and development.
  • Collaborate with various business partners across the organization, including finance, legal, product and engineering and sales to ensure alignment and facilitate issue resolution. 
  • Work closely with internal and external auditors; preparing necessary audit schedules and addressing audit inquiries in a timely and comprehensive manner.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA designation
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in corporate and/or public accounting 
  • Deep working knowledge of US GAAP with an ability to communicate technical accounting concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Prior experience managing teams, demonstrating strong leadership and people management skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with or at public companies within the tech industry
  • Proficient knowledge of NetSuite or other major ERP
  • Experience performing controls within a SOX framework
  • Led process improvement and automation initiatives
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical solutions

Compensation

Coursera offers competitive pay and equitable compensation practices. Our job titles may span more than one career level. The targeted hiring base salary range for this role is between $149,000 and $158,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experiences, training/education, transferable skills, business needs, and geographical location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for variable pay, equity, and benefits.
