Job Title:              Independent Nuclear Oversight Inspector 
Location:              Plymouth, Devon 
Compensation:    Up to £85,000 + AIP and Healthcare

The role
As a Independent Nuclear Oversight Inspector, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be responsible for delivering the Oversight programme, supported by Senior Inspectors and Inspectors. This function is key to delivering our internal regulation activities. 


Day-to-day, you’ll provide independent oversight of nuclear related activities, promoting attitudes and behaviours that encourage constructive challenge.

 

  • Provision of independent advice and guidance to the Chair of the Board, the Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd (DRDL) Board, Managing Directors and the wider organisation
  • Supporting an effective interface with the external regulators (including internal stakeholders) in relation to nuclear, radiological, conventional, environmental, environmental permitting, fire and, security of nuclear and hazardous materials matters for facilities across the DRDL site
  • Leading the independent assessment of the business’s emergency arrangements exercise programme.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

 

Essential experience of the Independent Nuclear Oversight Inspector :

  • Extensive experience of implementing, advising, or regulating HSE arrangements;
  • Ability to think independently to identify trends, behaviours and insights that could improve safety performance;
  • Skill and tenacity to deliver complex and occasionally unwelcome messages under possible challenging situations;
  • Track record of regulatory engagement would be an advantage.
  • Detailed knowledge of LCs and ACs and how they are complied with on site.

 

Qualifications for the Independent Nuclear Oversight Inspector :

  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution or able to demonstrate performance and / or experience at an equivalent professional level
  • A degree, or equivalent, in an appropriate scientific or engineering subject
  • National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health Diploma
  • Nuclear Practitioner course Modules 1 to 4 (desirable) or Nuclear Warship Support Course (desirable)
  • Qualification or significant experience in auditing and investigations at Business Unit, Company or Corporate level

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
