Job Description:
Parsons is now hiring a part-time Senior Traffic Engineer for ongoing work in the Chicagoland area. The successful candidate can be mostly remote but will be part of the Parsons’ Traffic Engineering team located at Schaumburg, IL. The engineer is expected to conduct field reviews periodically to the signal systems in the Chicagoland area, as required. The part-time work will be 17.5 hours minimum per week, but this can increase based on workload.
The signal system projects involve collecting turning movement data at the intersections, performing intersection capacity analyses for multiple periods, performing optimization analyses to develop ideal timings, and implementing the optimized timings—the work also including fine-tuning the parameters to ensure proper signal operations under real-time conditions. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical aspects of signal coordination and timing optimization projects throughout the Chicagoland area. Work includes managing traffic data collection and analysis and developing and monitoring traffic-responsive plans to adequately respond to up-to-the-minute traffic patterns.
In this role, you will:
- Produce Task Orders and Cost Estimates to guide the work of the client’s system
- Collaborate closely with the client’s technical team to identify task priority, make recommendations, and generate meeting minutes
- Conduct PM duties as necessary such as reviewing and approving sub-contractor invoices and other submissions
- Coordinate daily with project team, client staff, and consultants on the projects
- Identify and ensure timely repairs of maintenance items on the client’s signal network
- Perform field reviews and inspections of traffic signals and monitor optimized signal performance
- Review and improve traffic flow by evaluating and adjusting the timing and programming of traffic signal controllers and collaborating with clients
- Prepare reports of cost-benefit analyses
- Develop and train junior staff and monitor the performance of their duties
- Write winning proposals to win more signal timing work for the teams
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 8years of overall related experience, including direct experience in the evaluation, implementation, operation, and maintenance of traffic signals
- Valid and current Illinois PE license
- Working knowledge of the FHWA MUTCD, IDOT regulations and standard special provisions, and handbooks
- Working knowledge of signal modeling software such as Synchro, Simtraffic or similar
- Proficiency with CAD and drawing applications (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, Visio, Paint 3D) would be an asset
- Experience configuring, programming, and modifying Traffic Signals and controllers
- Strong project management skills, particularly the assignment of tasks to, and supervision of, more junior staff
- Ability to write winning proposals, communicate clearly in English, both orally and in writing.

Salary Range:
$40.05 - $70.10
