How can you make an impact?

Our Digital Center of Excellence team is seeking a User Experience Manager to manage the design program for McGraw Hill web and e-commerce (mheducation.com) including other sites and online experiences in the McGraw Hill global web ecosystem. The designer should have excellent visual design skills and be proficient in design systems thinking. This individual must collaborate closely with UX and interaction designers to ensure that visual designs for both B2B web and B2C e-commerce align with best practices and innovative approaches. These designs should consistently elevate the McGraw Hill master brand while enabling customers to interact intuitively and successfully with our web and e-commerce experiences.

The User Experience Manager will lead a team that includes research leads and UX leads. In addition, the UI Lead will collaborate closely with analytics teams and product management to understand user needs and translate high-level customer and business requirements into visual designs. The Senior Lead will own and maintain a design roadmap and create and implement a scalable visual system, iteratively improving the site experience with consistent, intuitive, and high-performing user interfaces.

This is a remote position open to applicants within the United States and requires up to 10% travel for the year.

What you will do:

  • Recruit, mentor, and empower team members, establishing annual goals and objectives, conducting performance evaluations, and managing team expenses effectively
  • Supervise research lead initiatives to provide valuable insights that inform and enrich design processes
  • Take charge of UX/UI strategy for MHE.com, shaping navigation, page layouts, and more to enhance user experiences
  • Determine UX/UI priorities and guide the team in delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Utilize wireframing, design, and prototyping techniques to craft user flows, conducting design tests to refine iterations iteratively.
  • Define UX strategy and processes or vetted web initiatives within an agile framework, ensuring adaptability and responsiveness
  • Define and implement systems for scalable and accessible web design organization-wide, fostering consistency and accessibility.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • BA/BFA degree in Design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), HCI, CS, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • A strong portfolio of projects demonstrating varied experience across digital, including web and mobile.
  • Experience within e-commerce and/or ed tech is a plus.
  • Expertise in standard UX software such as Figma, Sketch, Invision, and Storybook. Proficiency with prototyping tools like Axure, and UXPin is a plus.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility and experience with optimizing experiences for usability and accessibility.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and milestones efficiently. Experience within an Agile environment is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate across functional areas, including technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience leading research priorities and leveraging findings and metrics to inform projects and priorities.

The pay range for this position is between $70,000 and $135,000 annually, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
